Swim
Comments: Surf was rough going in and coming out for me. Felt like I was fighting waves just to get to first bouy. Also started out heading too far north of bouy which created more work. Once I got pass bouy and headed south, water was calm and I was able to get into my comfortable pace. This was my second race and first in the ocean so I made a conscious effort to keep my pace in check and not to over do it. Coming in to beach, waves were high and rough again. Got hammered on one particular wave which knocked my goggles off so I sawm the last 100 meters or so with no eye protection. Not fun. What would you do differently?: I would wear my goggles under my cap and do a better job of dolphin diving and avoid being hit straight on by waves. Transition 1
Comments: Dont' have T1 time What would you do differently?: Bring my own bucket of water to wash sand. Guy next to me was nice enough to offer his bucket. Bike
Comments: Bike course was roling with no major, long hills. Lanes are wide open so people were passing on both left and right. What would you do differently?: Train more for better overall speed and power. My average speed was too slwo. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Kept a good pace using my new Garmin Forerunner 305. For me, it was a pace faster than I usually run when training. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Took down about 3 whole oranges and a bottle of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim was rough going out and coming in. Losing goggles coming in didn't help either. Event comments: Good race if you are a beginner like me but need to be ready to swim in some rough surf. Last updated: 2011-06-14 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5 am and ate egg salad sandwich on wheat with cup of coffee. Had a bowel movement and left for Carlsbad.
Some stretching especially my neck. Quick dip in the ocean to get my wetsuit wet.
