Swim
Comments: Took swim very easy, maybe a little too easy. Very little congestion thru first 2 buoys. Lots of congestion at 3rd buoy. Had a difficult time navigating around several people who were just treading water, costing me a lot of time. Stood up a bit too soon. Didn't feel the need to run onto shore until late which in hindsight, cost me more time. Overall, good swim, but could have easily been much faster. Left a little too much in the tank. What would you do differently?: A bit more intensity thru 1st and 2nd buoys and finish harder. Avoid standing up so soon Transition 1
Comments: Good transition, but took a bit too much time deciding whether to wear long sleeve shirt or not. Dropped helmet and had difficulty w/drying feet to get into bike shoes. What would you do differently?: More sense of urgency Bike
Comments: Had a horrible bike. New bike this year, with approx 50 miles logged before race. Used new areo bars I installed myself which resulted in some back pain. Need to get fitted as I felt the bike was not fit appropriately. Had difficulty getting comfortable on the bike this year. I felt tired very early and seemed to run into traffic at virtually every turn and corner which caused me to slow down quite often. For only 12 miles, it felt like the course was dragging on and on. Never got into a rhythm and posted a much lower time than I anticipated. Lower split than last year using my old bike. What would you do differently?: 1. Get fitted to improve comfort and help in determining ideal riding position. 2. More training. Bike was always the workout that got skipped and it showed during the race. 3. More brick workouts. Transition 2
Comments: T2 transition was horrible. Way too slow. Had difficulty getting off bike (mainly because both feet were numb after bike). Decided to put socks which wasted a good 30 seconds. Forgot to put race belt on which caused additional delay. What would you do differently?: No socks! Feet on top of shoes before dismount Run
Comments: Run started w/both feet numb. Took a good mile to get running legs back. Poor run was more a result of horrible bike than anything, however. Pace was slow but good to start. Managed to stay running up the hill at mile 2, but was way too slow. Did not effectively use the lengthy downhill to increase my splits. Didn't seem to have any energy to increase my pace at all during the last 1/3 of the run. Kicker was non-existent. No kick at finish at all. The bad bike really took it's toll on my run performance. What would you do differently?: Brick workouts, early and often. Fix the bike training and the run should improve. Work on longer runs Post race
Warm down: Seemed to have plenty of energy at completion of race. Felt much better 15 minutes after finish which indicates that I probably just had a poor race. A little more race-specific training should improve my time considerably. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bad bad bike. Event comments: Nothing better than spending time with friends at Elkhart Lake! Disappointing race, but rest of weekend was fantastic! Last updated: 2011-06-14 12:00 AM

Up by 5:30am. Energy bar, banana bread and some fruit for light breakfast. Good cup of coffee.
None. Late start prevented me for getting in the water before race.
Quicker start this year.
