Pre-race routine:

Got up about 3:30. Had coffee and half pb sandwich.
Event warmup:

Walked around a bit and then met up with some people and chatted a while. Waited in the water for about 45 minutes trying to stay cool. I was the 15 wave, so it was about an hour wait.
Swim
  • 12m 11s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

I don't think this was a good swim for me, but I did my best. It seemed like it took forever.
What would you do differently?:

Haven't been swimming much since being back in NJ and it shows. Not swimming with the master for the past month and half has been a drag. Looking forward to getting back to Florida.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

It was a really bad transition day for me. Cut my finger and was bleeding all over the place. Broke my favorite Maui Jim sunglasses and just could not get my act together.
Bike
  • 38m 54s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 17.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike course. Considering the heat I felt really good and pushed hard. Average HR was 184.
What would you do differently?:

Need more time in the saddle.
Transition 2
  • 03m 44s
Comments:

Could not get my act together. Was tired, HR was soaring and could not get my running shoes on.
Run
  • 41m 42s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 13m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

I did really poorly here. I walked about 90% of the course. They did a great job trying to keep us cool and hydrated, but it was just too hot. My avg HR was 185 for the run, it never went below 177, and I given that, I guess walking was the right thing to do.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to work on my run... both the physical and mental aspect of it.
Post race
Warm down:

Grab a water, pack up and went home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat. Although my overall time sucked, I did the best of I could and was proud of the fact that I did the race. I was really having second thoughts considering heat, but I glad I did it!

My rankings for the swim and bike are pretty decent and put me above average to average. The run just continues to be a real battle for me.

Event comments:

Awesome race and course. Having said that, I don't think I would do this race again. Too many participants which make for a late wave start for me. Don't like starting the run at 9:30. I don't understand why they don't start this event an earlier????
