Swim
Comments: Got knocked in the eye with a fist(yes a fist) Hurt like doughnuts. Then got a good draft of of Lori Bowden. (just kidding) But she passed me and thats all I know. Had a couple of issues with drafting off of people then they would go off in another direction. What would you do differently?: Better Sighting, better swimming, more training. Join a Masters Class. Transition 1
Comments: They Had STRIPPERS!!! Now that helped. It was a long run to the bikes. Since it was overcast made a game time decision to throw bike jersy over Javelin suit. Good Call Dan. Then put the Bike shorts on. Sorry Javelin, your padding lacks a tad. Had everything packed in there. Put the socks on cause it was raining a touch, and wanted my feet to stay warm and not numb for the run. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe go a bit faster. Bike
Comments: This was what was scaring me the most of the whole thing. But I got on the bike and was up to speed quickly, put on the arm warmers and started out. Set the clock on the watch for 15 mins to remind me to eat. So every 15 mins I would eat a chunk of cliff bar averaging around 1 bar per hour, then I hit the hammer gels and gatorade and water. Swiped a couple of bannanas. Started drinking just water and jel around 75k. Had to tell myself not to go so fast in the beginning and slapped my helmet to get into the game mode. The bike was easy until around 80-85k I was starting to hurt. This was a good ride. It felt really good. The camera got me hurting going up the second hill. Damn buggers. I almost wiped out going over the cattle crossing doing like 45. Never got passed going down the big hill, but passed a Cervelo a couple of them and a guru. The guy looked at me like I was nuts. Yep going like 68-70k on a wet hill. I love going down hill. What would you do differently?: Not eat everything they throw at you. But I think it helped over all. More Time In The Saddle, Thats right! I need that! Brand new bike might help as well. Transition 2
Comments: This transition was a bit longer than needed. GOt the jersy off quick and stuffed some jel into my Javelin suit. Changed into dry socks and put the shoes on. Grabbed my race number and hat and took off. I did not wear my glasses for some reason. Then halfway through transition, I tied the shoes up. What would you do differently?: Maybe go faster Run
Comments: Started out and hit the can right away. Race number popped off but caught the button, yes still had a bit of energy. Put the button back on which went on suprisingly easy. Took off and noticed that my shorts were all black, hey thats not right. So Took off my biking shorts and was in full Javelin wear. Threw the bike shorts to the side by a pole and picked them up later. My right side was killing me. Shin and hip. So started off really slow and tried to run 10-1's did that for 3 times. Thank the lord that I was running when I seen Lori Bowden go by the other way:). I got to around 5-6 k and this guy who was running like a 3 year old passed me. Oh that got me pissed. Pissed right off. I was actually angry. So Dan said Dan, you got a chance to get under 6 hours. All you have to do is run. So, Dan started running. I just focused and focused. THe pain was still there until around 10k But right around 8ish k, Lori BOwden Passes me. Yep, and I say Hey Lori, great Job! Yeah I seriously said that. Then That really got me pumped cause I Picked it up a bit more and really hammered it. Yeah, Lori got me pumped. Then The second loop. I was @ 458 @ the turn around. Said self you have 1 hour to do 10k. Lets not waste it. Hit this course. Nailed it. I was dying near the end, but this guy had a hose that sprayed beautiful cold water on you around 2 k left. It rocked. I nailed the finish sprinting and Steve King announced here comes Dan HEATH, talk about a finishing kick. Passed the line and fell into a guys arms that helped me walk a bit and gave me a medal. Yeah DAN YOU DID IT! Also, around 11k I realized that I was actually going to be able to do this. I choked up a bit. Hard to Breathe wheezing actually. I recommend that you wait until the end to do this. What would you do differently?: Get Angry faster. More bricks. Better lighter shoes. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the lake and got my shorts from the road. Somebody was asking how I changed. They thought there might be a naked guy running. I told them I was sorry to disappoint. Then walked back to bikes and put my warm clothes on. I was thinking that I would watch the finishers come in but realized that I was so tired I better hit the road so I would not fall asleep at the wheel. Glad I did. As I was loading my bike, my front tire went flat. Heard a big hiss and could not figure what it was. It was my tire sitting on the grass going flat. Holy cow. I must have someone watching over me! What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. More Training. Swim faster bike faster and run faster. Event comments: This race was great. Perfect in alot of ways. Can't really think of anything wrong with it. Lots of Flats and a few Crashes. Last updated: 2006-04-17 12:00 AM

Woke up 0515, had a shower, got ready and headed to Tims in Penticton. I got around 8 hours of good sleep. 2 12grain bagels and cream cheese with xl black coffee. Went to transition around 0630. Got everything ready and headed to the port-o-potties. There's tons of them so no line. Did my thing and headed back to the car to get my glasses that I forgot. Bodyglided up and headed back to the bike to get wetsuit on. While there the person that I though I saw, passed me, no one other than Lori Bowden. Yep one of the greatest athletes racing me. Hmmmm. Excited, not really.
Since this was the first time with the new home made sleeveless wetsuit, I went in and swam roughly 100m.
Came back and stood beside No one other than Lori Bowden for about a nano second as she went for a swim.(yep, stood beside Lori!) This was her first race for awhile apparently. Then went to the back of the pack and got ready for a good swim.
