Swim
Comments: I actually felt like the swim went really well. I kept my rhythm and breathing under control, and more importantly was able to stay on course the entire time. I was really happy with my navigation this race, especially compared to last weekend! Time includes a run up Public Landing and into transition. Public Landing was covered in moss and algae, making it extremely slippery to try to climb out of the water. What would you do differently?: Could have gone further into the river to get a bigger current for more speed, but for now, I'll take this. Transition 1
Comments: Sunglasses and helmet on. Socks and shoes on. Grab bike and go! What would you do differently?: I need to eliminate the socks, I know. I'd be a lot faster through T1 without stopping to put them on my wet feet, but I like them. Bike
Comments: So, there's a big (big!) climb right at the start of the bike as we climbed up to Columbia Parkway via an exit ramp. I saw 5-6 people walking their bikes up along the side of the ramp, and we were only .2 miles in. Other than some rolling hills on the Parkway, the remainder of the ride was really fast. What would you do differently?: May have been better if I shifted down into the tiny ring to climb the first hill instead of stood up and mashed it out. But hey, I went toe to toe with the big ugly hill and came out on top. Transition 2
Comments: Helmet off, running shoes on, hat on and go! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I like T2 Run
Comments: Not my best, and I knew it. I had a hard time getting up to race pace. What would you do differently?: Take a tall glass of HTFU and gut it out. The course featured rolling hills and it was really hot/humid out, but I have a hard time accepting excuses on the run. I just had a let down. Post race
Warm down: Stretched and enjoyed lots of water and fresh fruit. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had a mental hiccup on the run and let the heat/humidity get inside my head for the first mile. I didn't have my watch on like I normally do (drowned earlier this week in lap pool), or else I may have been able to snap myself out of the slower pace. Event comments: The venue for this race is awesome, and very spectator-friendly from what my fiancee had to say. Everything was very well organized. The bike course is about the toughest I've been on to date, but that's not saying very much. I'll definitely consider this race for next year. Last updated: 2011-06-16 12:00 AM
