Pre-race routine:

First outdoor event
Woke up right around 5am; slept good in the camper
Checked swim, bike, and running gear to make sure everything was in order
organized it in the transition area.

Event warmup:

stretched and walked to calm around to try to calm my nerves. Alot people and activity very exciting enviroment
Swim
  • 12m 18s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was not able to breath; Like body went into shock or something. Started to compensate approximately 300 yards in. Was able to pull in back together again. Very disappointing as this was going to be a strong suit as a swimmer.

Had purchased and used a wetsuit *** It saved my bacon helping me float**

Did breaststroke to help with my breathing
What would you do differently?:

Do some open water practice before hand - will be looking for somewhere to practice this. Also should have gotten in the water to try to acclimatize myself to it before the official start.

Lost approximately 3-4 min...live and learn for the next one LOL
Transition 1
  • 04m 19s
Comments:

First real transition type Triathlon - took extra needed time to help catch my breathe from my swim leg
What would you do differently?:

Socks or no socks? Maybe some glide lotion to aide in getting wetsuit off or maybe just not attempt to use them in the future? Still learning so not going to sweat it alot
Bike
  • 1h 01m 22s
  • 15 miles
  • 14.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Was able to get feet out of clipps just before dismount area. Did well getting off bike but because transition area is on a cement paved hill clips were sliding while try to run.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder to be able avg. high speed. Practice putting feet in shoes while ride and better dismounting. Will also
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Happy with this transition; not lot I had to do on this one just lose my helmet and change from clips into running shoes. Went well
What would you do differently?:

Still learning
Run
  • 41m 17s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 13m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I did very close to what my expectation were for my first outdoor Triathlon
What would you do differently?:

Train way more!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

none

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience and training

Event comments:
