Swim
Comments: I started out well, and this was a very large improvement for me from previous triathlons. I paniced in the water at the start in this event last year. I couln't stay in my stroke because I was battling not to throw up. I was determined not to let the flu stop me. My arms got extremely tired, I don't think I got my wetsuit pulled up on my arms enough. It was like I was fighting the suit. What would you do differently?: Maybe take something for nasuea. I had trained both mentally and physically for the swim and it paid off with an almost 2 minute improvement from last year. I need to make sure to get my arms into the suit enought so that there is no loss of motion in the arms. Transition 1
Comments: I ride in my running shoes but no socks. takes a little extra time in T1 but sure helps in T2. My wetsuit hangs up on the knee braces I wear I may try cutting the suit a little shorter in the legs. What would you do differently?: Get better at getting out of the wetsuit. this is my 1st season with this suit Bike
Comments: The bike is my strongest event. It motivates me to reel in all those youngsters that start in the swim before me and I can pass them on the bike. What would you do differently?: I had a good ride, the rain is the only real issue I had. My stomach issues were still there during the ride so I know that slowed me down Transition 2
Comments: I ride in my running shoes for the shorter event so I just need to rake my bike, take off my helmet and grab a cap and I am off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Nailed the transition Run
Comments: I was a little shaky coming off the bike due to the stomach issues. I ended up walking the last 10 yards of the hill and then was able to get into a pace. What would you do differently?: Not much, I would like to think I could have pushed my pace, but I don't think with the condition of my stomach and the weather I could have. Post race
Warm down: walked around, tried to get into some dry clothes, had a 1/2 banana and some icedtea. What limited your ability to perform faster: stomach and intesting issues - still not feeling well the next day, probably the flu. Would have been better if it hadn't be raining, made for slick roads and the need to hold back a little on the turns. Event comments: Last year this was my 1st triathlon and my goal was to finish, this year my goal was to beat my time. I didn't do that but I know that I finished last year with energy left over. This year I left everything on the course and for this day, I ran the best race I could on this day. A 2nd place finish in only my 3rd race was a great day. Last updated: 2011-06-19 12:00 AM

Got up at 5am. My husband fixed my normal pre-race breakfast 2eggs and potatoes. I had packed everything and loaded the bike and gear into the car the night before.
During breakfast I started to feel sick to my stomach and had an attach of diareaha. Not a pleasant way to start a race day. We got there in the rain early to get a parking spot and then at 7am went and set up the transition area.
I struggleed to get into my wetsuit due to the rain and it stuck on my arms, this came to be a problem later. After getting into my wetsuit I got into the lake to get water and the shock of the cold over with. I swam a few strokes and was fighting my stomach issues. I jumped around and jogged a little to get my lungs and blood pumping before the start. I have learned this helps me to get a better start.
