Overall Rank = 697/1600
Age Group = M30 ~ 34
Age Group Rank = 150/280
Pre-race routine:

Well, I had a hotel room about 100 meters from the transition area, so after getting everything in place, I went back to the hotel room and enjoyed the AC a little longer. IT WAS HOT!!!

I went to the swim start area at about 8:45. The first wave was at 9:00, and mine was at 9:15
Event warmup:

A little stretching, otherwise, not much.
Swim
  • 37m 2s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

I think I did very well on this part of my race. I got a good start, and began strong. I found that most people were breast stroking, which was irritating. I got kicked quite a few times, but nothing serious. I quickly settled into my rhythm and just went, unfortunately, after about 200 meters I began running into the wave in front of me, and since they were mostly breast stoking too, I had to constantly slow, look up, re-route, and then swim again.
What would you do differently?:

Not a whole lot. I might go for an outside line, to avoid breast strokers, especially if I was in a later wave.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I thought T1 went pretty well. Got to my bike right away, dropped goggles and hat, put on helmet, sunglasses and shoes very quickly, and got out on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 08m 54s
  • 40 kms
  • 34.83 km/hr
Comments:

I was also really happy with my bike. I finished quite a bit faster than I thought I would, but there is still LOTS of room for improvement. I thought I handled the corners very well, and took them quite a bit faster than many of the other races. Only one was a bit of a close call.

Maybe I should have had a little more to drink, but I did get in about 3/4 of my energy drink, and almost my whole bottle of water, so pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Not Much
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I thought I did really well here too. My rhythm was a little messed up when the volunteer had to get the scrunchies off my arm. Which required me to come to a complete stop about 3 meters off my bike, but started running again right away, and got socks / shoes on quickly with no issues.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 13m 55s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 23s  min/km
Comments:

I lost it here... I think I probably drank too much because I was seriously overheating. I did alright for the first 5km, but just couldn't hold it. At about 5.5km I stopped and began walking... slowly. A couple times I tried to get running again, but my head was POUNDING... Actually, my legs felt OK, but I was just seriously overheated.
First 5km = 30 minutes
Second 5km = 43 minutes

I walked about 3km, and then ran, slowly, the last 1.5km

Also, with all the water I was dumping over my head trying to cool down, I've gotta figure something out with the shoes... after the first 3km, they were completely water logged, and weighed WAY more than they did at the start!
What would you do differently?:

Drink less. I think I took in a little too much liquid, and it was definitely affecting me on the second lap.

Run the whole thing. :) I think my pace was OK, and my legs felt like they could manage it, just overheated.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around a bit, some calf stretches, and a big wedge of watermelon. Then back to the hotel room for a shower before we had to check out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat.

Event comments:

It's my first, so of course its the best... but it really was good. There were TONS of volunteers, and it was really smoothly run. Great work!
