Swim
Comments: The time trial start was intriguing. I queued up in the front of my wave of women, hoping not to have to swim over the slower folks. After the first 100m, there were literally three cap colors around me, so we still caught up to the slowest of the previous waves. I didn't mind the start, but I do not think they waited 10 seconds between each group of swimmers. With so much traffic, I felt sure my time would be slower than last year, but I improved by over 2 minutes. What would you do differently?: A few active shoulder stretches before jumping in. Better sighting, to find some open lanes, or at least to dodge backstrokers. Transition 1
Comments: I wasn't as dizzy as last year when I got out, so I didn't have to walk much between the water and transition, so I improved 24 seconds over last year. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Felt good, should have pushed a bit harder maybe. I cut about 3 minutes from last year's time. The course was a bit congested, and there were a lot of people not riding all the way to the right. Made passing a bit difficult. What would you do differently?: Push it, I trained well and should have been more confident in my ability to handle the run after pushing on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Shaved 37 seconds off last year's time. Run
Comments: Right off the bat I did 3 min run, 1 min walk. Got into a groove and stuck to this. As soon as I passed through the finish area to run the loops by the capitol, and I looked at my watch, I thought I could finish in under 2 hours if I picked up the pace. I skipped the walks and dug in for the last mile or so and survived! What would you do differently?: Run more, always. Have confidence I can complete the distance Post race
Warm down: nothing at all. Water and a towel with ice cubes. What limited your ability to perform faster: I put in so much more time training this year, and it worked! Event comments: I had a great time and a PR at the race. Over 9 minutes shaved off last year, and the run this year was longer. Everyone from my training group finished, included two newbies. Much to celebrate. Last updated: 2011-06-20 12:00 AM

Up at 3am, half bagel with peanut butter, water. Was very full from wedding dinner the night before, so I ate less than usual. Brought banana, clif bar and string cheese with me to snack on during transition set-up if needed.
Not much, light stretching.
