Swim
Comments: Came out hot and tried to stick with the lead group. Got dropped by the lead group and kept pace hoping another swimmer or two would catch up and I could draft but none did. Felt some people on my heels until the second half when they dropped off. What would you do differently?: Get tinted goggles. The sun was in my eyes for the entire second leg and caused some navigation issues. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Locate the wetsuit strap earlier. It ended up over my shoulder and I couldn't find it while running to the bike. Bike
Comments: Headwind on the way out which made for a nice tailwind on the way back. Slower than I would have liked. Passed some people this time which made me feel better than last year. Overall on the bike I need to get faster; I'm thinking my shoulder width is creating a plowing effect in the air which could be a big factor. That and bike fitness What would you do differently?: Not much I could have done differently. Effort level was good, turns were good, passes were good. It is just speed that I need to get up. Transition 2
Comments: Elastic laces were very helpful. I beat the guy who was next to me out of T2 even though he got in their first. And that was after I had to turn around to take my helmet off. What would you do differently?: Take the helmet off before starting the run. Run
Comments: Run effort felt good. I didn't have any kick during the final few hundred meters which tells me I managed my pace well for the entire 5K. My left foot went numb halfway through the run so I need to loosen the elastic laces on that foot. What would you do differently?: Might pick up the pace a few seconds per KM but not much I could have done differently. Post race
Warm down: Towel on the head and a sit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness level. Need more training. Event comments: Had a good race and shaved 2.5 minutes off last year's time but I'm still having issues trying to beat 1:20:00 for a sprint. After reviewing the results, there is a trend showing that my bike leg is the leg that needs the most work. Last updated: 2011-06-20 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:00am after a crap sleep in the in-laws house. Too hot, baby in the same room tossing around, loud TV watching by FIL. Got dressed and went downstairs for some oatmeal, a Clif bar and some OJ. Pulled the water bottles from the fridge and headed off to the site at 5:40am. Stopped by Timmy's for a large coffee, parked the car and got setup in transition. Had a 710 ml bottle of gatorade while setting up.
Took the bike out for a 10 minute ride to make sure everything was working. Once the water was open for warmup had about a 10 minute swim to get used to the water.
