Swim
Comments: Swim was awesome! I am proud of my swim as this was my first in open water. I navigated well, except for a few sightings when I was headed towards right of the 2 loop buoys instead of the left. What would you do differently?: Do more swim training. Transition 1
Comments: There were not many people in T1 when I got there. Before the race I kept picturing a crazy transition area of doom. I had practiced T1 a couple of times so I was pretty well prepared for it. There are areas I can improve, but I'm happy with my first T1. Took 1 saltstick pill. What would you do differently?: Immediately after I exited the reservoir I started trying to take my wetsuit off. There was about 20 yards or so of sand to run through. I was pretty tired from the swim so fighting my wetusit and the sand at the same time was rough. Next time I would start working on my wetsuit once I am out of the sand and get my feet under me. The rack for my bike was too short. To get my bike under it I had to lean my bike to the side. Next time I need to find a rack my bike fits under. Bike
Comments: My biking was pretty weak. I haven't done much bike training so my bike wasn't setup very well for me. My seat was too low and reminded me a bit of when I was a kid and it was cool to have a low seat but you couldn't peddle to save your life. Since I haven't done very much training I needed to make sure I had something for the run, so I didn't push it too hard. Consumed 2 gus. What would you do differently?: I would get aero bars, practice my riding positioning and get my bike setup corrected. Transition 2
Comments: Took saltstick, no gu What would you do differently?: Racking my bike took longer than expected, should be simple and straight forward, somehow my brain made it difficult. I need to practice this for the next tri so my tired brain doesn't get in the way. Run
Comments: I never looked at my pace, only my HR. I was stoked to see my pace was sub 8:00. What would you do differently?: Maybe take a water bottle instead of using the aid stations for water. More training of course. Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: I trained pretty hard for my half marathon in May. After that my training dropped off hard. 1 swim(race distance)/bike(10 minute solo spin) brick, 1 bike(race distance)/run(2 miles) brick and a few random workouts. Event comments: This was my first tri. I really enjoyed it! Last updated: 2011-06-20 12:00 AM

3 hours before the race I ate toast with peanut butter and had 1 cup of coffee. I drank about 1.5 liters during the 3 hours I was awake before the race. About 1 hour before the race I ate half a banana.
Nothing really. I was nervous, my wife suggested I run a little... I took her advice and jogged for about 30 seconds.
