Pre-race routine:

Planning on 4:30 wake up, but woke at 4 and just stayed up. Left at 5 for the long drive down to the race site (which had been moved from the much closer Hopkinton site at the last minute). Bagel with PB on the ride down. Arrived on site, picked up packets (like the blue shirts) and got marked. Setup transition and headed down to the water.

Comments:

Lots of contact early on, with people pulling, kicking, swimming across my line. After hitting far buoy started to clear out a bit more. Felt more tired than expected, maybe need to practice some higher effort swims with the wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more with wetsuit and go a better job sighting to get out of traffic. Maybe also start outside or wait a few more seconds before getting into the pack.

Legs felt tired most of the ride, need to see if the wetsuit is causing more fatigue on the swim than desired. Only got passed by a few people, but the race was small, and this is still the largest area that needs improvement. Happy with breaking 20 mph for the first time.

Need more training on the bike.

Had paper still in the toe of my shoe from when attempting to dry them after a run in the downpour. Other than that, transition was decent, but could pick up a little time here.

Calves very tired coming off of the bike, partly I believe due to an incorrect bike fit for the new aero position. Not passed by anyone on the run and picked up a few spots, I think 3.
What would you do differently?:

More bike/run transitions and adjust bike fit.

Warm down:

Stretching while waiting for everyone else to finish. Ate a bagel and some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more training on the bike. Also need to check the bike fit for bike effort and leg fatigue for the run. Also believe the wetsuit may have negatively impacted my effort in the swim.

Event comments:

Movement of race venue within weeks of the race was extremely unwelcome and inconvenient. Expecting more from a race series that has put on numerous races over the past 2 years. Not a great course with little of interest to see and no changes in scenery. Nice amenities like color wicking shirt, medals and imprinted caps.
