Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:45. Bagel with peanut butter, drove to the race, hung out and set up transition area. It was about a 5 min walk each way from where I parked to the transition area, which I walked 3 times and rode once. I had just started jogging when they called 5 minutes to the start of the race, I was thinking it started at 7:30, not 7:00
Swim
  • 07m 1s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Overall, good T1.
What would you do differently?:

Always room for more speed. I haven't rehearsed a transition since June of last year, considering this, I couldn't have asked for it to go better.
Bike
  • 35m 53s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 19.23 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I went just a tad hard on the bike, my legs felt heavy the whole run. A couple minor gear change issues, and cornering could have been better on the downhill.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Some difficulty getting running shoes on, eventually got them on, one of the tongues was a bit bunched up.
What would you do differently?:

Took a sip of water before taking off, need to break this habit.
Run
  • 24m 7s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

Too hard/not enough miles on the bike slowed my 5k down significantly, but I was able to hang on.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit, some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Early in the season, not much bike/swim training since last year. Overall I paced relatively well. I was expecting to be between 1:05:00 and 1:10:00, and I was.

Event comments:

Small local event, lots of focus on the kid's event. I misheard the awards lady or she read the list wrong. I won my AG (first time ever!) and took home a bronze (colored) medal instead of my gold! Oh well.

Performance: Good
About 100 yards from the pool to the timing mat, overall my pace was a little slower than expected.
Suit: Tri Suit, no wetsuit
Course: Snake style swim with at TT start. I self seeded just in front of the 6:00/300 area which was consistent with what I swam a couple days before. Ended up placing me much closer to the front than I would have thought. No complaints though, I was passed by three people, two of whom petered out and ended up dying in front of me next to each other. Considering the potential for a mess during this swim, I think it went well.
