Pre-race routine:

Ate breakfast early, drove to Amesbury, set up transition
Event warmup:

Did a 1-mile run followed by a 3-mile bike ride. Wanted to have a 10-minute swim, but ran out of time (!!).
Swim
  • 14m 44s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Another crap swim -- I got maybe 2/3 of the way and felt like I needed to rest, so I side-stroked for maybe 50-100 yds and then finished okay. Very disappointing as I should have had no trouble with this. I can't say that I went out too fast (I didn't), so I may have suffered from not warming up.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up in the water first, and focus more on the mechanics of each stroke rather than how much farther there is to go. Sight less? Also, I need to be able to tell myself to just gut it out and finish.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Pretty good T1 time, given that I put on socks and shoes first. Definitely better to not have to worry about putting on a shirt (wore a tri-shirt under my wetsuit). Didn't bother drying off my head/body, just my feet a bit, and this was fine.
What would you do differently?:

Try to run faster into T1 and try running with my bike.
Bike
  • 39m 10s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 18.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike (after a while). By the time we got to Maple Ave, I was feeling really good and riding strong. Had a strong finish.
What would you do differently?:

Don't really know what I could do differently.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Had a good T2.
What would you do differently?:

I should try to get quicker running with the bike.
Run
  • 32m 17s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 10m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

At the time, the run felt pretty good, but from my time, I was running too slow (:40/mile slower than my race 2 months ago, and nearly a minute slower than my best run last year). I don't think I spent too much on the bike because my legs didn't feel heavy or anything, I was just off pace. The mile-markers may have had an effect -- the marker for "Mile 1" came at 8:15 for me, leading me to thinking I was running at a good clip, but this was clearly wrong.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace!!
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere. Ate some pizza and drank part of a beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure -- my head?

Event comments:

I'm kind of annoyed about the mile markers on the run. Either make them accurate or don't have them at all.
