Total Time = 3h 55m 53s
Overall Rank = 297/300
Age Group = 50 - 54
Age Group Rank = 8/8
Pre-race routine:

Packed the night before and loaded the bike on the car.

Had oatmeal w/banana for breakfast aprox 3 hrs. brfore swim start.
Event warmup:

Stretched and did a practice swim.
Swim
  • 51m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 03m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim to first bouy went well. About 1/4 of way to second bouy stomach started acting up, felt naseus, had problems getting a full breath. Tried swimming slower but it didn't help. Threw up just past second bouy. Felt better and was able to complete swim.

Had problems with swimming in a straight line. Goggles fogged up a litle bit.

Swim time was slower than expected.

Had wetsuit on correctly this time, wasn't tight in the chest.
What would you do differently?:

Not going to velcro wetsuit closed at neck. Have had the same problem when weaering a swim suit that closed at the back of neck. Not sure why I have this problem.
Transition 1
  • 04m 10s
Comments:

Drank the cup of water offered when I exited the water. Ran from lake to transition area. Put two Nuun tablets in a water bottle before changing into bike gear. Drank a chocolate GU premixed with water, drank some Nuun.
What would you do differently?:

Wait until I'm on the bike to drink.
Bike
  • 1h 37m 58s
  • 24 miles
  • 14.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Drank more Nuun on the bike, helped to settle the stomach.
What would you do differently?:

Need to put clipless pedals on bike. Need to train better, look for a detailed training plan.
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Bike was easy to rack given all that was needed was to slip rear wheel into box. Changed socks, drank a bit more Nuun.
Run
  • 1h 20m 25s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 12m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Run through park was nice, some shade. Gut felt a little shaky at times. Time was slow even for me.
What would you do differently?:

Need to do bricks, run when tired. Could have pushed harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and Gatorade 03, put on light coat and hat. Ate breakfast burrito.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being sick on the swim. Didn't train as well as I should have for ride.

Event comments:

Liked having the box to rack my bike in. Made getting in and out of transitions easy. Pleanty of room for gear.
