Swim
Comments: Ok swim. I was never really by anyone except at the very start so no chance to draft. I think I swam pretty straight. Got into a good breathing/sighting pattern 3-2-3-2. I was 43 sec slower than last year. Transition 1
Comments: No T1 issues like last year w/wetsuit. T1 time is about the same but TA was farther from water. In the small paking lot instead of on the grass. 2nd in AG + 2 sec What would you do differently?: Not much Bike
Comments: Good bike, Garmin had speed faster, I didn't start right out of transition due to the hill at beginning of bike. Felt the crosswinds with my race wheels but nothing bad. Since elites went first and we were last of my men, then relay and women, nobody passed me on the bike, although I did pass some wave 6 (relay) people so they swam faster than me. What would you do differently?: I was hoping to officially break 22 mph again (which I did unofficially) but still was 1st in AG. Transition 2
Comments: Good T2, 1st in AG -1 sec from 3rd place finisher. Run
Comments: Run fitness is improving but I still don't have the miles I had last year. Last year I averaged 6:42. If I can continue to get more training miles in w/o knee issues I would like to get my pace under 7:00. What would you do differently?: Train more, until the last 2 weeks I have been in 10-14 mile per week range only. Post race
Warm down: Scott had great race 4th in his AG. He started 6 min ahead of me and I saw him just before the run turnaround but could not cath him over last 1.75 miles or so. Plenty of fluids, took bike back to car and changed then got back to see Barb finish. Barb was a little slower than last year but had fun agin this year. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was my first official AG group win. Larry S raced as elite and beat me by 3 sec, way better than the 8+ min he beat me by at Albert Lea. I would have won 45-49 as well and been 3rd in 40-44 w/o including those who raced elite, so a good race. Including elites 50-54 I waould have been 3rd by the 3 seconds Larry beat me by but had we raced together I'm thinking I would have outkicked him for 2nd ;-) I was slower in all 3 disciplines but slightly faster in transitions. Not as well trained this year for sure on the run and swim with knee issues forcing me to race sprints only. I have been able to bike as much or more than last year so my bike is comparable. With knee prognosis I'm still happy just to be able to compete, podium finishes are a bonus. Event comments: Fun race, new venue is fine. The TA switch was good as well as the bike course reversal. With Scott living in St Cloud a good race for us to do as a family. Sadly we misse Andy and Jenny's wedding in Door County. Last updated: 2011-06-25 12:00 AM

Saturday race instead of Sunday this year. We stayed at Scott's Fri-Sun. Packet pickup and watched some of the kids tri on Fri. House of Pizza for dinner. One car to race, my bike w/o front wheel went in the back. Honey Nut Cheerios and banana for breakfast. Up at 5:10 with a 5:55 etd.
Run bike and swim a little for all. Bike course was reversed to eliminate bikers and runners on same part of course. Wave 5 this year instead of last wave, much better.
