Pre-race routine:

Honey Nut Cheerios and banana. Left home w/Barb about 5:35. Got a spot at the swim in end of TA.
Event warmup:

Rode about 2 miles just past T intersection. Ran maybe .5 mile w/o socks, decided to sockless for race. I wasw in last wave. Fun to cheer on Olympic racres as they ran along beach betweek swim loops. Got in a short swim.

Took a lot of pics pre-race.
Swim
  • 07m 44s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started up towards front on inside. Got a good kick in right goggle in 1st 100 yds. Didn't cause any problems. I think I got a little wide rounding 2nd buoy but not much of an issue. Good breathing rythm. Much better swim than Albert Lea.
Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Left leg got stuck. The shoulder straps on the bib get too close and cause issues with the leg coming out. Same thing as last year at Graniteman and one of my pool swims. I knew how to correct but need to getthis figured out so it doesn't happen. Maybe added 20-30 seconds.

3rd in AG, +27 secs from 1st. 35th overall.
Bike
  • 27m 5s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.15 mile/hr
Comments:

I wanted to get a top 10 bike time and just missed. I went hard on the bike passed a lot of people being in the last wave. Nice dismount that Travis captured with some pics.
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Good T2. 3rd in AG +3 secs. 31 overall.
Run
  • 22m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I was hoping to go a little faster, closer to 7:00 pace. Run training has not been where I'd like it.
What would you do differently?:

Be able to run more in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a lot, changed out of kit, took pics. Got Scott in T2, Barb finishing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Had 9 dsys off after Memorial Day bike crash and BWCA trip. Knee has been OK recently. Decent run for someone who is not supposed to be running.

Event comments:

Different doing sprint and a short one at that. Beet last year's winner time by about 5 min. W/O wetsuit issue might have got under an hour. Guys who beat me in AG were 52 and 50, would have placed higher in younger AGs.
