Swim
Comments: Was a wave start with 91 guys. Lots of bumping. Did not get kicked or elbowed! Bumping lasted the entire swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Was my first race in open water. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went pretty well for my first time. I did not swim with a wetsuit so didn't have to mess with that headache. The tip of rolling your socks up worked wonders for me. In my haste I forgot to keep a ha d on my bike and it fell over and unbenonste to me my water bottle fell out. What would you do differently?: Make sure my water bottle is there before leaving transition area. Bike
Comments: Took it easy for most of the first lap. Just tried to get a feel for the course. It was a few short minutes into the bike that i went to reach for my water bottle and it wasnt there Crap! Luckly i was able to bum a few swigs off of two other riders I had heard there were a few hills so I wanted to see what I was up against. Well, the hills were a joke. My training ride were 10x harder than this 15 miles. Once I saw I was in good shape I opened it up. I always say "Harry, I'm dropping the hammer!" to quote Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder. Rest of the bike was awesome. What would you do differently?: Performance wise I did what I wanted to. Next year the hammer gets dropped right from the beginning. Transition 2
Comments: Got out of my bike shoes, into the running shoes. Found my lost water bottle and hit a swig. Almost ran out with my helmet still on. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: It's hard to run and drink at the same time! Got a little bit of a stomach cramp at the start of the run. Tried some deep beathing to loosen up the muscle and it gradually got better. My legs felt pretty darn good at the beginning, but I do not try and pretend to be a runner. I'm not a super speed freak. The last mile my legs started to really loosen up and so I stretched out my stride. I flat out ran the last 100 passing people left and right. I felt like a super hero crossing that line! What would you do differently?: Let my legs run a little earlier. Also I need to practice my tempo runs and not be afraid to lengthen my stride no matter how tired I may get. Post race
Warm down: I sat down in a big tub that they were handing out bottle of water from! Walked around a bit and tried to stretch my legs a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: My lack of course knowledge. Event comments: One water station on the bike loop would have helped me since I dropped mine in transition.
