Total Time = 1h 18m 55s
Overall Rank = 63/341
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 15/39
Pre-race routine:

Cliff bar, bottle of water, bannana, cup of joe, and one GU pack 20 min before wave start.
Event warmup:

Stretching
Swim
  • 16m 45s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my second open water swim and I know that swimming is my weak link so I stayed toward the back. I used the same wetsuit in Lake Geneva last year but it felt really tight around my chest like I was unable to take full deep breaths. As if it was constricting my respirations. I am right on the edge of the ML - L size for the Blue Seventy chart. Water was warm, swimmers were polite and didn't have anyone swim over me / through me. But that might have somethign to do with my starting position.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out my wetsuit issue.
Transition 1
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

I can only imagine the comedy show that you would have seen if you saw me in transition. It took me four tries to get my shirt on, each one taking 15-25 seconds each. I almost asked someone else for help but didn't want to screw up anyone else's T1 time!
What would you do differently?:

Put my shirt on before the swim under my wetsuit. That was embarassing!
Bike
  • 34m 39s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Once I finally made it out of transition I jogged my bike out jumped on and started to peddle away. Once I got moving I finished clipping in my right shoe. I am new to this sport and this was only my second sprint I have ever done but I made a point of going to the course talk and reading the rules. I found it stupid how many people on the bike course did not follow the rules. I honestly must of have passed a dozen people on the bike that were out right blocking me. I always gave the courtesy "on your left" as I was coming up and some people gave me some very unfriendly glances. Come on now I was only averaged 21 mph so its not like I was flying by like some of the elite guys/girls were.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on my gears for hills, mashed the pedals a bit too much.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

This was much better than T1, still have room for improvement though. Started to get some cramping in my quads.
What would you do differently?:

The bike rack area seemed really cramped, not sure if it's normally that tight but it was hard to get my stuff laid out in an organized fashion.
Run
  • 22m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off with probably a 8 min mile pace and slowly picked it up as my legs switched from bike to run mode. Was nice to have so many people on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Slight crapming at the start of my run and it came back in the last 1/2 mile. I think I might need to stay away from caffine on race days!
Post race
Warm down:

Bottle of Gatorade, Bottle of water, and 1/2 bagel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

People on the bike course blocking. Leg cramps on the run.

Event comments:

Good race, very professional, well run, course was well marked and I thought it was well laid out. Good traffic control, lots of parking. Post race was okay but not great.
