Swim
Comments: OK, I get it. I'm not a fast swimmer...but much improved from last year. Just wait for the bike!!!! More on that later. This was my first International distance tri so nothing to compare it to. Water temp like bathwater compared to Lake Michigan!!!! My age group had the black swim cap. Was a little intimidated when just before the first buoy I felt my feet getting tapped by other swimmers only to look back and see nothing but white swim caps and churning water. F-me! At least I did pass a few folks from 1 or 2 waves prior. Seemed like the shore line never got closer during the last leg of the swim What would you do differently?: Swim faster, Duh!!!! Lots of room to improve here and I am highly motivated to do so! Transition 1
Comments: Not stellar but better than my 4 minute average the past. Better to skip the latte and foot massage. The guy that won this thing had 41 second T1. WTF!!!!!! The only way I could do this is if my wetsuit evaporated from my skin upon exiting the water and a bike appeared from beneath me and magically transported me to bike out. What would you do differently?: Go even faster. Purchase above mentioned items when available. Bike
Comments: Hammered the bike, at least I think. Passed everyone I saw- based on my swim time it was a lot of people! Two people passed me only to be passed by me again and completely dropped- they were both on tri-bikes with aero helmets and I was on a roadie. HA!!!! Felt really strong and maybe could have gone harder. What would you do differently?: My QR tri-bike should be arriving this week!!!! This with an aero helmet. More speed for next year! Transition 2
Comments: It is what it is What would you do differently?: Faster!!! Yanks for my shoes. Run
Comments: Should have pushed myself harder. Can easily maintain a 7:35 pace but didn't do so. The course was well marked but there were weird lane transitions from right to left and certain parts of the course- sort of reminded me of watching speed skating in the Olympics. What would you do differently?: Run faster. I had it in me. Post race
Warm down: Gatroade, water. Would have really loved a post-race beer!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Inexperience. Need to improve on the swim. Event comments: Overall was a great race. Felt it was well organized and routes were well marked. The race website touts a "great goodie bag". Not sure only an ugly rust orange shirt justifies this statement. Must be a surplus of this color overseas! Last updated: 2011-06-27 12:00 AM

Got up at 0300 in Chicago. Bowl of cereal and 2 cups of java. Got in the minvan with the wife and off to the race at 0345. Made good time to the race. Got off on 165 and was unhappily surprised by the road block to the race site. WTF!!!! Checked the race website the night before and no mention of this. Luckily for GPS and "follow the other cars with bike racks" we went around the other side of the lake and got a good parking spot. No problems getting into T1
V1 (Vansition). Sat in the minivan, ate a banana and powerbar, prerace potty. Wetsuit on. Ready to go.
