Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 3:45 because I had a 90min drive to the race site. Ate a half a muffin, then later on...because my wave didn't start till 8:10ish...40min after first wave. I popped 2 of those Endurolytes caplets...bad fucking idea...to try and prevent cramping. Well I also ate a Powerbar after that because I was hungry...but I didn't drink that much water...BIG MISTAKE.
Event warmup:

biked about 2 miles, ran about 5 min with 2 race pace accelerations, then swam 5 mins to get lose.

Swim goal was 30min...HA!

Ok, so here is my swimming saga. We walk down the ramp to go swim but there are a lot of people and i'm near the back. I get to the edge of the ramp to jump in and their like "30 seconds!!" well shit! so I throw on my goggles in a rush and jump in the water. I don't even make it out to the 2 blue balls *cough* I mean buoy's when the horn blows. So I have to swim diagonally out to meet the swimmers on the proper course. Of course the goggles leaked because I didn't have a chance to put them on right, so I float on the back for a second and fix them. After that the first half of the swim went well!

Half Way Split: 16:30ish

Here's where it went downhill. I rounded the 5th buoy, aka the turn around, and slow down to pee because I ment to do that while waiting for the horn in the water...but I was kind of rushed before. So I do that and start swimming again...all of a sudden I get really Nauseas! So I do some back stroke, so some breast, do some back floating, and some freestyle. I am trying my hardest not to throw up right now, it was horrible!! I even thought about asking a lifeguard for help, perhaps to throw a buoy so I can compose for a few min then finish the swim. I could tell the lifeguard was eyeing me too, she prob though I was gonna drown. I somehow finish the swim and get out of the water at 38ish min.

Second Half swim: 22min-ish

Then there was a slow walk/trot to transition while I continued not to try and throw up, man I have never been so happy to get out of the water before in my life!!
What would you do differently?:

NOT TAKE ENDUROLYTE CAPS!!!!! "Beat the Heat!" MY ASS!! now true I prob didn't drink enough water after taking the caps, but fuck! That's what I get for trying out new shit on race day.

What would you do differently?:

Wear the swim socks I bought! coming out of the water I had to run over 2 parking lots with lots of loose gravel.

Bike goal was 1:30...SCORE!

Well this didn't start off any better! I already figured my race was pretty much fucked up so might as well go hard on the bike and see what I can rock. I started off by running into someone else while trying to mount my bike. I had my shoes already clipped in and was looking to hop on when I ran into the guy ahead of me! I thought he was moving but apparently he stopped to clip in! So I rammed him and he goes "you alright?" and by this point I didn't care about anything so I go "yep! haven't even mounted yet!" So I finally hop on my bike and unhook the rubber bands from the random parts of my bike and start getting up to speed. Well the rubber band on my right shoe decided to get hooked on my big ring!! so that wrapped around a few times before I even noticed and so I had to back peddel a bunch to get it untangled then tucked it into my bike shoe so it wouldn't get caught again. So this race is going GREAT so far (can you hint the sarcasm?) Yet mostly everything turned around here.

The bike course was not closed to traffic!! BUT the cars that were there were very respectful when it was down to one lane and when it wasn't there where cones so we had our own lane! I was pissed about the swim and figured I had to make up lots of time on the bike so I went pretty hard. I still had the urge to throw up for the beginning of the bike but I drank water and Gaterade and that helped it pass. I ate nothing on the first loop!! my stomach would have rejected anything.

First Loop: 38min-ish

Second loop was pretty much the same, kept it in the small ring because it gave me a better option of gears. I figured I needed to try and eat something to carry me through the run. My options were Vanilla Bean GU that I had tucked into my shorts, OR I had 2 Strawberry/Banana Powergels...the 4X sodium ones!! So I could take more sodium... or lots of sugar...hmmm shitty options. I decided on a straw/ban powergel because it isn't as thick. I gently put down the first half and was like, alright lets finish this bad boy off. So I attempted to squeeze the whole second half in my mouth...bad fucking idea!! It totally dried out my mouth and once again I almost instantly threw up, I had to stop peddling and just cruse and sip some water till the vomit feeling left. I finished almost all of my 16oz water bottle and most of my 16oz gaterade.

Second loop: same as the first....SO AMPTED that I gained back the time.
What would you do differently?:

I did the best for what I had going on!

I'd say pretty good transition considering how big the t-area was.
What would you do differently?:

Run Goal: 45min - would = 2:45 perfectly with all 3 events.

BAM!!!!!! Wow I was sooo ampted about how I was able to run after everything!

First loop: 21:45-ish
Felt great coming off the bike. I kept low-mid Z3 on this loop to make sure my body wasn't going to blow up because its been sucking all day! Luckily there were a good amount of people on the run so I could just pick people off 1-by-1. "1 by 1 baby!" I kept saying to myself, pass one and focus on passing the next.

Second Loop: 22:15-ish
I was still feeling pretty good until mile 4ish, I started getting a few stomach craps but they'd just go away at the next water stop when I could get some fluids. I would grab a water cup and a Heed cup, splash a little Heed in the water for electrolyte but mostly water since I already had ass loads of Sodium in my body.

Sprinted the straight away home and was fuck all excited that I was still able to reach my overall goal after such a horrid start!

I only had 3 people pass me on the whole 6.2 miles. 2 of them were at the 3.1 mile mark, 1 of which I passed again right away and the other I kept an eye on for a while but lost track of him after a while. The other guy passed me with 3/4 mile left and I tried to stay with him but he was going just a tad to hard, BUT I sprinted past him in the straight away. I couldn't even tell you how many people I passed, it would have been too hard to keep count.
What would you do differently?:

run harder the last 5K, basically run myself into the ground.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a bit with my sister who was waiting at the finish for me, got some food then sat down and watched the awards. THEY GAVE AWAY A $2000 SPECIALIZED BIKE!!! but I didn't win it...shambles.

ps my sister did the sprint and her splits were 14min swim, 51min bike, 31:30 run, finishing just under 1:40!! not to shabby for a girl who just came back from a 2 month Vacation in Europe and basically no training leading up to the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

HAMMER ENDUROLYTE CAPLETS!!! I'm pretty positive I'll never touch those things again!! I'll put it out there, this is the hardest race mentally i've done! I can't tell you how hard it was to keep going in that fucking swim from hell...but I'm so glad I did because the other 2 events went pretty damn well considering.

Event comments:

The race was delayed about 10min because of parking issues. Other than that I loved the race, good course, good people, good competition, good times!
