Total Time = 1h 16m 38s
Overall Rank = 245/705
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 22/39
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast at 0500, head down for packet pick-up at 0545. Set up transition, body marking. Walk the transition to find my bike quickly.
Event warmup:

Light jog ~1/4mi
Swim
  • 06m 58s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got kicked hard in the chest by someone doing breaststroke from the wave in front of me. About three strokes in my watch fell off, not a big deal it was old but annoying.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little easier for the whole swim. Swim more before the race, busy with marathon training I had only done 2 swims in the 1.5 months prior.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Good T1. Still not sure about having the shoes clipped on already.
What would you do differently?:

Practice shoes on transition to see if it will have significant savings.
Bike
  • 37m 29s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Took a turn to fast, and in Aero. Slid off the road into a rough area and then into a rocky area. Rocks caused my first race flat. Took a little longer to change and I pushed too hard after. On another turn launched my aero bottle and didn't have enough to drink after that.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the course more frequently (I live 5 minutes away). Take more turns on the pursuit bars. Practice turns more on my tri-bike. Not push so hard if I flat, just accept it.
Transition 2
  • 03m
Comments:

Transition was going great until the pushing too hard on the bike caught up with me and I had to take almost 2 minutes to recover.
What would you do differently?:

Not ride so hard because of a flat.
Run
  • 27m 45s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run after pushing too hard on the bike. Kept it slow for the first mile to let my stomach settle. Probably 8:30ish, but no watch to be sure.
What would you do differently?:

Not push so hard on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching, walking

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Flat, pushing too hard after the flat.

Event comments:

Event started late due to car accident clean up. Great race, just not a good performance.
