Total Time = 1h 20m 20s
Overall Rank = 141/401
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 17/40
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3 had 1 slice of toast with PB&J, a banana and coffee
Event warmup:

Walked 1/2 mile-ish to the swim start and swam about 50 meters right before the first wave went off.
Swim
  • 14m 34s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got new goggles the day before to help prevent fog... as soon as I started swimming they fogged up and I couldn't see anything. Had a hard time sighting, but overall had my fastest swim ever and felt very easy. The run from the beach up into T1 seemed really long.

Gu Espresso Love about 20 minutes before the swim start.
What would you do differently?:

Bring some goggle wipes with me to help prevent goggle fog. Take the run into T1 a little slower so I can catch my breath but push harder in the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

Took my time in T1, calves started cramping up as I tried to get into my shoes. Glasses fogged up left them at T1.
What would you do differently?:

Put my glasses in my helmet and put them on after I was already riding to prevent fog. Get some tri shoes and go sockless.
Bike
  • 34m 27s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Take more time on the bike to recover. I only drank about 1/8 of my bottle.
What would you do differently?:

Get a chance to ride the course before the race. Ride more hills. Start the bike leg slower so I could have recovered a bit before settling in.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Once again, calves started cramping up as I was trying to get into my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

I thought it was a pretty quick transition, just had leg cramp issues.
Run
  • 27m 23s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Calf cramping issue up until about 1/2 mile in and then the legs opened up. Could not catch my breath and had a slower pace than I had hoped for.
What would you do differently?:

Work more on my run
Post race
Warm down:

None, walked around a bit got some fruit and free drinks. Got my calves and IT worked on by the club Chiro.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calves were cramping up and felt I couldn't catch my breath

Event comments:

Great local race, well organized and fun. I'll do this one again next year.
