Swim
Comments: Swim was a serpentine in outside pool. "Rounding bouy" for this race was diving under the lane ropes to the next lane...and it was definitely something I should have practiced. Only got passed once in the pool by a guy who ended up swimming about a minute faster than he was seeded, so I don't feel so bad. Caught up to the guy that started ahead of me and decided to just draft off of him for the remaining 100yds to save energy. That seemed to work out well. Swim time also includes T1. According to my watch (unofficial time), my swim was 5:36 getting out of the water. What would you do differently?: Just keep swimming to get faster. Should have jumped in the pool before the race to get a few warmup laps in. Transition 1
Comments: The distance from pool to transition area is a little bit more of a jog than I was initially expecting, Slippery grass with gravel here or there made it a little rough on bare feet, but nothing a little HTFU couldn't deal with. Felt good coming out of transition, having passed a few people on the run over to the bikes, and getting out quickly. What would you do differently?: Someone moved my bike/transition area over a few feet after I left to go start, which had me a little miffed. I got my rear tire stuck on my bag trying to unrack it, which cost me a few seconds. Otherwise, I think this was a good effort. Bike
What would you do differently?: Should have had more water in the first part of the course. Transition 2
Comments: I like T2. There's a lot less to keep track of compared to T1. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Happy with the effort. Run
Comments: I was feeling the effects of not having had enough water on the bike. There was a little more mental energy to keep my pace going on the first part of the run. At the turn around point I was able to get myself composed and really focus in on the last 1.5 miles. The last quarter mile was a sprint to the finish with another guy...I refused to get passed that close to the finish! Ended up holding him off and finished a few tenths ahead of him. What would you do differently?: Given that this was a training race and also that my legs are beat from some marathon training earlier this week, I'm happy with the run, I guess. I suppose composing myself earlier would have made things easier on me. There's always next time. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, lots of water and a snack. 1/2mi cool down jog and then headed out to breakfast :-) What limited your ability to perform faster: This was a training race, so not my best effort. Event comments: Small race (250-300 people), but it was a good time. This seems like it would be a wonderful race for first timers (or new comers like me), or those looking to get in some race practice for bigger events. Last updated: 2011-07-03 12:00 AM

Wake up at 4:30, had some toast and water. Double-checked my bag and gear list, and then checked it again one more time for good measure. Drove to the course.
1mi bike ride and some light jogging for about 1/2mi. Stood around talking with family and new friends until the start.
