Swim
Comments: Since a HIM on June 18th where I crashed on the bike I haven't done a lot of swimming. I took two weeks off to heal my road rash, and then I've only gotten in about four swims since then. My focus has been on marathon training. Even so, I was expecting a time in the 25-26 min range. This swim was definitely a bit longer than a regular olympic swim distance. The 10th best swim time was around 24 minutes. I actually felt pretty good on the swim, holding a steady pace. I didn't want this race to impact my marathon training, so I went at around 80-90%. What would you do differently?: Get in more swims, including OWS. Over the next month leading up to AG Natl's I'm planning on at least 8,000 yards/week. Transition 1
Comments: There was around a 300-400 yard run from the lake back to transition. Again, I wasn't aiming to kill myself and ran at a decent clip. Bike
Comments: My plan for the bike was to go at HIM pace, around 270 watts. I came in at only 263 watts. The course was a little hillier than expected based on the course description, but pretty nice and very scenic in the middle of VT. I didn't get passed by anyone and was able to catch a lot of people from earlier waves or faster swimmers from my wave. Pretty happy with the performance based on not going all that hard. What would you do differently?: I could have gone around 300 watts, but that would have impacted my running this week, so overall happy. Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition Run
Comments: Like on the bike, my goal was to go at HIM intensity, so as to not negatively impact my training this week. I only got passed by one other person and I ended up passing around 10 others. Kept my pace under check, holding back a bit. My goal for AG Natl's is to be in the 39 min range for the 10k run, and with a bit of a taper, that should be doable. I ran about 53 miles this past week, including 20 mile and 14 mile runs, so my legs weren't ready to go all out in this race. I still was 15th overall in the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing, really. Post race
Warm down: Got a few drinks and some cool towels and talked with a few other racers. What limited your ability to perform faster: As said earlier, my plan was to go at HIM intensity. I have a 17 mile run scheduled for tomorrow. If I went all out in this race my marathon training would have been impacted. Event comments: This was the first year of this race, and I signed up two weeks before the race to get in a race between the HIM I did in June and AG Natl's in August. Overall, it went well even if I didn't go all out. I feel that I'll do quite well at AG Natl's in August of I add a little taper into my marathon plan. Last updated: 2011-07-03 12:00 AM

The race was 2.5 hrs away, so I woke up around 4:15, had a quick breakfast, loaded the car, and was out the door around 4:50.
Had to park about 1/2 mile away and ride to transition. I was able to get in about ten minutes of swimming before the start.
