Pre-race routine:

We went to Hartwell which is about 20 miles away from the race and stayed in a hotel there. I hate staying in a hotel because I never get decent sleep the night before, but the race was far enough that it would have been difficult to drive that morning. I had my boys with me, so I also had to be "Mama" while getting myself ready. I had 3 mini bagels, toasted, plain and part of a diet coke before the race.
Event warmup:

I was a little nervous.
Swim
  • 25m 28s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

The official numbers have not been posted yet, so I don't know exactly how long my swim was according to tribluesky. However when I looked at my watch coming out of the water, that was my time. It doesn't count the 250 yards from the shore to the transition area. Overall, I was pretty pleased with my swim. I kinda got off target a few times, but immediately corrected. I didn't get beat up which made me worry during the swim. I thought I would get out of the water and be the last one in the lake. Yes, I know it was a lake, but I kept thinking about the shark thread that was posted earlier this week...bring a pocket knife and poke a swimmer around you. Well it kept my mind busy during the swim at least.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster, but I am not sure how to do that.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

I felt like I took my time during this transition. I could have been faster I suppose.
What would you do differently?:

be faster
Bike
  • 1h 13m 39s
  • 22 miles
  • 17.92 mile/hr
Comments:

When we were waiting in the water for the swim start, Don asked me if I had my bike in the right gear. Well...that was a nice time to remind me! I did not. When I got on the bike my bike was really in the wrong gear! I change the gear and you would have thought I was 16 again learning to drive a stick shift. If you can grind gears on a bike, I did it. It sounded terrible. Anyway, I got up the hill right out of the transition area and dropped my chain. Phoey. I fixed it and took off. I felt really good on the bike. I felt strong and passed people left and right. Not too many passed me. It was awesome. My bike computer read that my average was 18.9.
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

I took the time to get some water in before starting my run. I think that is what slowed me down.
Run
  • 59m 44s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I was pretty slow during the run. I knew that my strongest competitor was behind me maybe 1/4 a mile and she is a strong runner so I wanted to make sure I stayed in front. The last mile was pretty much downhill so once I hit it, I ran fast. I thought I was going to have a heart attack, but I am glad to say I didn't. I beat the girl.
Post race
Warm down:

2 bananas and 1/2 bagel.

Event comments:

Some people don't like the tri the parks, I guess since I haven't done too many other races, I don't have anything really to compare. I think next year I will revisit a few of the races that I liked in this series, but venture out and tri some other races as well.

Course: The first 1/2 mile was on a gravel trail and pretty hilly. I hate running off road and the first part of the run uphill like that was not nice. After that little section, it was great, nice paved road the whole way until you looped around and had to do the $%^&% trail again.
