Swim
  • 27m 20s
  • 1931 meters
  • 01m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim for me. I have been working hard on my swim for the past few months and I think it is paying off. Had a good start. There was some contact at the beginning but nothing too bad. Swam pretty hard for about the first 200m then settled into a nice pace. Grabbed onto Shank's feet and stayed there for the entire swim. Thanks Shanks!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. That swim pretty much exceeded all my expectations.
Transition 1
  • 04m 8s
Comments:

Wanted to be smooth in transition and not rush. Took some extra time to make sure I had everything.
What would you do differently?:

Get through things quicker.
Bike
  • 2h 50m 59s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a plan on the bike. Start out easy for the first 10 miles and then build to a solid pace. Heart rate was high coming out the water and it took a while to come down. Once I hit mile 15 I was at my pace. Felt good but I wasn't pushing. Made sure i got in my calories and stayed on top of my hydration. Had a cloud cover for most of the bike which was nice.
What would you do differently?:

Very happy with the bike. Felt like I stayed within myself and setup for a good run.
Transition 2
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

Again went trough T2 deliberate. Had to hit the portajohn comeing out of T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Run
  • 2h 14m 59s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

I was feeling great coming off the bike. Went through the first lap averaging 8:54. Too fast but no crazy fast for me. Starting the second lap the sun came out it was like running into a wall. The temps and humidity shot up. That turned my second lap into survival mode.

Another thing of note, the aid stations on Broad were a long ways apart. If I had know they would be that far, I would have brought my own bottle.
What would you do differently?:

Pace better my first run lap. I should have been in the 9:15 range.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and coke. Found the rest of the Dynamo crew and watched everyone else come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience. It was my first 70.3. Number one goal was to get across the line.

Event comments:

This is an amazing course. Great for a first time 70.3. Challenging but fair and nothing ridiculous. I was hoping for anything under 6:00:00 so going 5:40 was a solid day for me.
