Swim
Comments: Damn...if only I could swim decent! Was really a cluster up to the first bouy and around. My dumb goggles fogged up and I couldnt see anything. Why does this always heppen to me? Must be the cold water and my hot head;) Anyways I stopped to rinse them and moved to inside the bouy line. I had a much cleaner swim here and was actually pretty straight until the guys in the wave begine me came along... sort of pushed me to the outside. Got back in and was fine. Not really looking forward to the ironman swim this year.... What would you do differently?: ummmm swim faster?? Swim was actually 3 minutes fatser the last year. The time does include a long sandy run to T1. Transition 1
Comments: I dont know this seems kind of long. I mean transition is kind of long here but. I skipped by the strippers cuz it was pure mud oin the ground and I didnt rfeally feel like laying in that. So took off my own wetsuit! I didnt really struggle here...did fill my pockets with sport leg and sone shoit blocks also put on my garmin. What would you do differently?: I dont know....felt like I was going fairly quickly Bike
Comments: I didnt feel very good biking. My legs were not in the mood and I had a tummy ache for some reason. I was passsing a ton of people without a ton of effort so I just kept going. Made sure to drink drink drink..... by mile 25ish I sytarted to feel better... maybe my legs stopped rebeling, maybe the sportleg was working... who knows but I think I had a better 2cnd half then first half. Were also more hills then I remember...maybe I am just getting old:) Ave watts 174 NP 180...would have like these about 5 higher Ave hr was only 152....prob could have been close to 160 nutrition.... 3 sport leg, 1 bottle of infinit,1 bottle of Perform, 1 pack shot blocks, and ummm....lots of water..prob almost 3 bottles 5 min faster then last year What would you do differently?: nothing. I think I could hit 22 on this course on the right day. Transition 2
Comments: nothing special....been there done that Run
Comments: Was pleasantly suprised with how my legs felt starting the run. They were back by the time I got up the hills. Loved seeing my name on the hill....thansk Raytown Pete!!! Looked at my first splits and hr and was like..ha. this sint gonna be so bad. Lots of houses had sprinklers out for us which at first I avoided cuzI hate running in wet shoes. Quickly decided screw the feet more important to be cool. Not much shade out there. As my mile splits got slower... I think they really got slower more so because I was really taking the time to get fluids and ice at the aid stations. First loop I did a cup of ice and a cup of water at everyone. Did my most favorite gels every 3 to 3.5 miles. 2cnd loop I lost focus for a while and got a bit discouraged...regained myself and sterted on the coke...love it:) Felt like I pushed the last 2 miles although my splits dont show it! :) It was great seeing everyone out there!!! What would you do differently?: nothing.... it was hot,. I did everything I could to stay cool and get fluids in. I definitly need to spend more time in a higher hr zone. My body just doesnt like to go there! 4 minutes faster then last year 3 gels, 6 sport leg, some oarnge slices and some coke. Post race
Warm down: went straight to transition to get my phone and headed to the lake. I knew I had a while before my athletes finished. Then I went to check the reults and I was 3rd..and there was THREE Vegas slots!!!! YAHOOO!!! Was sure Id need to go sub 5 for one of those! Didnt take the slot...same day as ironman. Oh well...confident I can repeat my performance. Watched my athletes come in....they did AWESOME!!!! So proud:) Congrats guys!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: ummm....temperature of eleventy million degrees?? not complaining I am totally down with my results. Yes I said I am happy with my results:) Took 12 minutes off last years time in much tougher conditions and moved up 8 places. Event comments: They did a great great job of keeping us hydrated and trying to keep us cool and healthy. I heard 94% finished...which is awesome for the conditions! Last updated: 2011-07-05 12:00 AM
