Swim
Comments: Such a different swim than last year. First I am sure it was short as others were saying the same thing. Plus I can not swim that fast. Second, I could breath this year. Last year, I had just finished up with bronchitis, so breathing was tough last year. Jockeyed ok up to the first bouy. Caught a pair of fast feet as they went by and was happy with that until I realized this guy was passing me doing the breast stroke :( Oh well, it still helped. Transition 1
Comments: Did not swim with my bike jersey on, and it made for a faster swim. On the other hand, I struggled to get it on in T1. Worth the risk on such a short race without a wetsuit. What would you do differently?: drop the lake water temps so the suits would be legal (snerk) Bike
Comments: I so love the bike. Good form and tactics can make up for being in crappy shape. I was actually able to move up in the field some. Played tag with a few people. I was very happy to be able to push as hard as I did. Any harder, and my legs would have gotten hurt. My calves were screaming by the end of the ride, but I gave it all I had today. Computrainer helped yet again to make sure I have good mussel memory on my form. That and attacking the hills when it made sense really showed with less experienced riders around. Love blasting past a rider on a short hill using the downhill before it to gain momentum. Transition 2
Comments: Not too shabby here. My legs were jello, and I was not sure how they would respond after pushing so hard on the bike. What would you do differently?: nada Run
Comments: Ok, this route was the same as last year, and somehow I was slower. Not too surprised due to my training, but the rest of the race was such a jump up from last year, I expected to be a little faster here. Either way, to be under 11 minute miles right now is GREAT. I so will take this run. Post race
Warm down: Well this year, I did not collapse at the finishing line. That would have been saved for the oly race on Sunday if it had not been canceled. It was nice to be able to go out hard knowing there was no race to have to do tomorrow. What limited your ability to perform faster: This years training has been unmotivated and very low on volume. I am ashamed at my training numbers, but very proud of what I did in the race today. Event comments: I so love this race! I know so many people, and it is kind of like a family reunion each year. drove down to the race this morning. Knew the Hurricane Irene was en route, and was looking for a very nice sunrise. I was not disappointed. A beautiful sunrise was coming up as I passed through Boston. I could see the Bunker Hill monument in the foreground as I crossed the bridge into Boston. Very dramatic with the impending storm clouds to the south.
I was able to catch up with Scott, Steve, Sue, and Joanne and others before the race.
