Total Time = 1h 28m 7s
Overall Rank = 27/172
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 3/11
Pre-race routine:

6.5 hrs sleep, coffee, cliff bar. For some reason was very congested overnight and considered an antihistamine.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 12m 56s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

Had a great OWS the day before on calm water. For some reason the wheels fell off today. Water had some chop and I may have started out to fast. Breathing was erratic and lost focus on form. Lots of side stroke and back stroke
What would you do differently?:

Start slower and build pace. Focus on keeping head down in water and left side pull.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Best t1 time yet. Swam with HR strap and top. Might have picked it up some more but I was pleased.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 51m 18s
  • 19 miles
  • 22.22 mile/hr
Comments:

First tri since adding clip on aerobats on my road bike and was pleasantly surprised. Seem to have added about 2mph. Some spots found myself in between gears to try to keep cadence up.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

T2 was also my best time so far so no complaints.
Run
  • 21m 23s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

HR was pretty high out of t2 so I backed it down some. Once I got water on my head and back was able to pick the third mile up to 6:43 pace. Pleased as this was a PR pace for Sprint Tris.
What would you do differently?:

Cold water on head and back earlier. (out of t2)
Post race
Warm down:

No warm down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim is the big limiter and Bike speed is now getting to a point where a TT bike may help, but I really like passing the high dollar bikes on my Black Beauty. Might be able to squeak a little more pace in the run.

Event comments:

My second IRP race. No frills but the race itself is well organized and run considering the locations the are located at. Both races might have benefitted from a few more volunteers on the run course directing people to the proper route.
