Swim
Comments: Swim started out really rough. Couldn't catch my breath and kept having to flip on my back and did a bit of breast stroke. Finally got my rhythm and got my steady free style. Terrible siting. I swear I probably swam a mile and a quarter as I was so zig zaggy. Got a pretty significant cramp in my calf on the way back in but just tried to keep loose and let it work itself out. On the exit, took a huge spill, the sand crossed a blacktop path and it was covered with wet sand, I lost my footing and BOOM went down hard on my right side. Knee and elbow scraped, sand EVERYWHERE and a large crowd yelling OOHH doesn't do a load for your confidence heading to the bike, but I trucked on :) Was surprised and pleased to see the 55 minute time at the end of the run to T1, even after the spill! What would you do differently?: more swim training - definitely try to get into a larger group for the open water swims. Not wipe out coming out of the swim. Transition 1
Comments: was glad I had a water bottle to wash my feet as I was covered in sand from my wipe out. Bike
Comments: Bike was ROUGH on me. Super uncomfortable in the saddle the 2nd half of the ride. Although the hills were rolling, they were non- stop. Seriously thought I was going to throw up the whole bike portion. Didn't do well on drinking either my water or hornet juice. Just so focused on the next hill that I had a hard time finding a point where I could safely make the reach. What would you do differently?: get out and bike on a hilly course Transition 2
Comments: took my time, trying to mentally prepare myself, felt so tired, was just trying to talk myself into moving Run
Comments: I was so tired and hot for the run. Really didn't think I had it in me after the bike and the swim. Thank goodness for my girlfriend and her 3 kids right outside T2 and all the volunteers. Definitely took lots of walk breaks. Thanks again for my 2 girlfriends, 1 with husband and baby as to start run lap 2 you had to run past the finish and keep going. Definitely tough on the head. So thankful for the 2 people with hoses at the end of their driveway spraying us all off. Super fun to finish with 2 of my girlfriend's 3 munchkins! What would you do differently?: train more consistently from a tired state Post race
Warm down: got some nice ice :) just missed the massage people :( EMT's cleaned up my scrapes What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training and experience, Event comments: I am a triathlete! Got my PR and have lots of room for improvements! Last updated: 2011-07-06 12:00 AM
