Run
Comments: Started running at a hard but comfortable pace early on, and I was surprised to be able to maintain that pace without too much difficulty as the race went on, especially after a long bike the day before. I just enjoy running the trails in the arear, so it was pretty fun. Being a smaller race, the only criticism I can make is there are not many aid stations, and as the race went on it was getting warm, so more fluids would have helped. I forgot the bottle I was going to carry for the race when I left the house, so it was partly my fault I didn't drink enough. I started to get tired as the race was leaving George Wyth State Park, but just focused on holding a decent pace. The last couple miles along the river were really nice, and I managed to pass a few people I had been following for a while at Krieg's crossing. Held a fast pace to the finish for a new half marathon PR (though this is only the 2nd stand-alone half I've ever done!). What would you do differently?: Not much, just remember the bottle I planned to carry before I left the house. Post race
Warm down: Planned to run 15 miles that day, so I ran another couple miles easy, had some chocolate milk and donut holes, then walked back out to run in with the girlfriend. What limited your ability to perform faster: No rest in advance of the race, long workouts the day before, not enough hydration available on the course and no bottle to drink. Event comments: Had a great time out on the trails, and set a decent time in the process, so it was a good day! Last updated: 2011-07-06 12:00 AM

I signed up to run this on a whim the day before because my girlfriend was doing it, it's close to home, and I needed to get a longish run in anyway for IM Moo training. So I didn't really take any rest days before to perform my best for this race, I actually got a long swim and 110 mi bike in the day before. I figured I would just show up and go for it and see what I could do. Got up a little later than planned, so no breakfast, just some Powerade and a Hammer gel. Got to the race site, parked, hit the port-a-johns, and by then the start was only a minute or two off.
None, didn't get up and get to the race in time to do any warm-up.
