Total Time = 1h 51m 27s
Overall Rank = 173/183
Age Group = 60-64
Age Group Rank = 6/6
Pre-race routine:

Stayed at Blue Spruce Motel in Middlebury the night before (a Norman Bates type but cheap. $60) Ate prime rib at restaurant night before - mistake
Got up about 5:45 coffee and bagel, got to sight about 6:30 plenty of time to register and set up.
Event warmup:

Did stretches and foam roll in motel. Swam about 5 minutes to get used to water and wetsuit. Drank about 8 0z energy drink.
Swim
  • 15m 10s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went pretty well. I was able to keep my breathing pretty well. I waited until the pack took off to avoid the thrashing and that worked well. About 2/3 way through the fast women in wave behind got up and went over me like trains. I got a little unsettled but managed to finish ok.
What would you do differently?:

I was ok with what I did.
Transition 1
  • 04m 48s
Comments:

Way to slow. I didn't sense anything slowing me down, so I was surprised how long it took.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace, lose the bike gloves.
Bike
  • 53m 10s
  • 14 miles
  • 15.80 mile/hr
Comments:

The ride went pretty well. I felt like I was pushing just the right effort. I was a little disappointed that I had to slow down so much on the last hill.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 2
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Again way to slow. I took time to drink and take another Gu. and put on socks. I didn't need the socks.
What would you do differently?:

Forget about socks. Pick up the pace.
Run
  • 34m 50s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

I was a little slower on the run than expected. I was hoping to make under 11 min. miles. Again I pushed myself but not to excess.
What would you do differently?:

Try to improve pace a little
Post race
Warm down:

Not much to say.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight is the biggest impediment to my performance.

Event comments:

Not a particularly friendly crowd. No tee shirt or medal. Didn't have any sense of comraderie.
