Swim
Comments: Started off to left of pack (too fast) found myself close to lead at first right turn, then got a couple swallows of water, off course guys running into me, and had to slow down to catch my breath. Sighted amazingly well. What would you do differently?: Not start so fast, lost breathing rhythm and couldn't get it back. A work in progress, did better then last OWS race but I still really suck. Transition 1
Comments: Because the lake was so low it was a real long run to T1. I passed several guys on the run to T1. putting on bike shoes took longer then normal.Outside spot on rack was not bad as it gave me more room to get shes on. What would you do differently?: Need to start practicing starting with shoes clipped into pedals. Bike
Comments: Moved to small chain ring after hitting the steep hill the first time. Passed by only one guy, 56 year old who ended up getting 2:00 penalty. The steep hill knocked down my time, need to keep working on hills. What would you do differently?: Nothing, maybe give a little more effort. Transition 2
Comments: Flew into dismount line, unclipped, ran in bike shoes, need to practice leaving shoes clipped in. could have been a little more expeditious getting running shoes on. Run
Comments: I was pleased with my pace, dumped water on my head at mile 2 but should have done it earier. What would you do differently?: Soak head and back of neck leaving T2. Post race
Warm down: banana and powerade. What limited your ability to perform faster: -Panic is swim again, need more work on this and to slow it down more. -Weakness on hills cycling needs to be worked on. -Might have squeezed more out of run if I dumped water on my head earlier to get HR down. -practice with shoes clippped in should save a few seconds in transitions. Event comments: I think the was the first time this event was run. Several hiccups: Transition not ready at 5AM, Bouys not in the water until after race was supposed to start, race started late, no power (think they would bring a generator), no prelim results after race posted. Although I won AG three other guys were awarded AG first thru third, since results weren't posted I left disappointed. There were plenty of volunteers, the course was not confusing at all and was well marked. Last updated: 2011-07-08 12:00 AM
