Run
Comments: Excellent race - hit maybe a few seconds fast for first 6 miles, felt like it was more a struggle once I hit 8-10 miles. the kick I'd been training for on the long runs happened when around mile 10-11 I started to lose the pace, but in the last mile I was hitting around 7:50 through the chute. What would you do differently?: Maybe slow down the early pace a few seconds, or instead how about just keeping that pace up the entire time! First few aid stations didn't get anything because I find at that pace I need to slow to drink, did so later and that paid off more than trying to run through it. dropped last gel around mile 11-12, left it and was okay, if it was the full distance probably would've gone back for it but for the half I was fine Post race
Warm down: Stretches, OJ, orange slices, grapes What limited your ability to perform faster: The mental game is still a big factor that tried to get me again around the 8 to 11 mile markers - all the doubt and slowing pace, but this time the training kept me in the game, plus before this finish I had never met any of my running goals. But that doubtful side of the mind is a real bitch and a half! Event comments: Overall finish for males - 84 of 604 Best running event to date - I trained for this pace and time and I nailed it. Now maybe can I keep this up for another 13? Last updated: 2011-07-11 12:00 AM
