Swim
Comments: The lake was very nice for a Florida lake as you could actually see the bottom of the lake! I tried not to think about having that many people in that small area all relieving themselves:) The first leg of the first lap was quite crowded with my wave plus parts of the earlier waves on their second lap. I am not an aggressive enough swimmer, so i slowed down a bunch getting through the crowd. I had a better time sighting this race then i usually do, still i added more yardage then necessary with my weaving. Second lap was a bit better as i was more relaxed and pushed myself a bit. I have a terrible time pacing myself on the swim, so i never go as fast as my training indicates i should/could. What would you do differently?: trust my training and be more assertive. Transition 1
Comments: For some reason i was a little light headed after the swim and it took extraordinarily long to get myself through transition. Then I ran/walked with the bike through the long transition area. What would you do differently?: move baby move! Bike
Comments: Well it wasn't pretty! The first 10-12 miles were ok as the wind hadn't kicked up too much, but then holy cow! We had sustained wind of 20-25 mph with gusts probably at 30-35 (at least this is what i heard). You could not get away from the wind. The crosswind was so bad that at times my bike was at a 50-55* angle, other times i was blown almost off course. Then we'd make a turn into the wind and would come to almost a stop! Even when there was a turn "away" from the wind there was still wind, just not as bad as the other 3 directions. Of course, the sort of ok direction was always shorter then the others. It got so bad at one point I was only managing 12.5 mph - and I passed people at that speed. What would you do differently?: Have areobars! I think it would have helped with the wind. Transition 2
Comments: When i got off the bike i realized that i was really chaffed under both my arms and it hurt! I don't know what caused it, but i took some time to find the body glide and lube up the area. Also put more sunscreen on. What would you do differently?: Be more organized, so i wouldn't have to hunt for my stuff. Run
Comments: I knew this was going to be bad with the hard bike, but I didn't think it would be this bad! I walked all the aid stations and some extra times as well:) On the first lap I took in too much liquid and ended up with a sloshing stomach, but it was so hot I just felt the need for water. Bad idea. On the second lap I was feeling better and figured out to take ice - which all the aid stations had plenty of - and sucked on it, put some under my hat, in my bra, and in the short's pocket at the small of my back. That seemed to work. The last 4-5 miles my right knee felt really sore and i was really fatiguing so i did more walking then i wanted. Running is my least weak sport, so this time was really disappointing. What would you do differently?: Don't drink so much and have a better bike! Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a diet coke and oreos, sat down for a minute and then went and packed up. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weak bike skills, especially for the conditions. Event comments: Multi-race always puts on a good race and this was no exception. It was nice that we had individually assigned spots for our bikes and there was plenty of room for all. There was plenty of stuff at the aid stations and tons of ice. Lots of volunteers all over and everyone was nice. Last updated: 2011-07-12 12:00 AM

Up at 3, so I could get the dog walked before leaving. Ate a bagel and drank diet coke. Made the 45 minute trip and arrived at the site almost exactly when I was assigned. Set up transition and spoke with the other middle aged women all around me. Looks like the assigned racks/numbers based upon age/sex, so all of us were in the same area. That was kind of nice.
I was at the rack when one of the race officials came by checking end plugs, he was quite surprised to see that i did not have aero bars. I'm pretty sure i was the only one in the half (and probably the international and duathlon ) without them.
walking around the area and a very short swim.
