Swim
Comments: good swim for me. didn't feel much current, but that time is about 2 minutes faster than i would normally be at that distance. the time trial start did allow me to swim pretty straight and without obstacles or turns it was pretty easy. early swim start (#544) was essential to minimizing heat later. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: very fast pace for me with the number of hills on this course. i probably went to fast for my fitness and that's what caused the impending run meltdown. well, that along with the heat. What would you do differently?: need to learn to keep my bike pace a little lower than i think i can go. i'm not used to the longer races and i used up my legs and had nothing left for the run. Transition 2
Run
Comments: and now we get to the meltdown. first off - it was hot, face of the sun hot. the first quarter mile was uphill in full sun. i got off to a bad start and never really recovered. alternated walk and slow run. tried to run at least 75% of the time, but even my run was really more of a jog. What would you do differently?: must train more to run off the bike in hot conditions. Post race
Warm down: laid down in the first shady, grassy area i could find and tried to cool down. only moved after smell of pizza called out to me. gobbled a few slices down, laid in the grass some more. finally convinced myself to head over to the car to start the drive home. What limited your ability to perform faster: heat, heat and more heat Event comments: i enjoyed the race overall. the heat wasn't the races fault. i might be back if i can convinve myself to ever do a tri in july again. got up earlier than the dawn of time to drive to Chattanooga. Yesh, i may not do that again. next time consider staying there the night before.
rushing around trying to get setup before the last bus left for the swim start got my heart rate up enough.
