Total Time = 1h 22m 30s
Overall Rank = 21/412
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/21
Pre-race routine:

Same as always. Up at 4 and ate toast/jam and a coffee. Stretched and loaded up Jennie and Caleb and we were off.
Event warmup:

Got in the water (too early for this temp!!! It was cold!!!!) and swam to the first bouy and back. That was enough.
Swim
  • 09m 32s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were whitecaps and I had not experienced that before. I swallowed some water and had to stop a few times. I was a bit deflated because of this because I had high hopes goign into this race and I knew I was at the back of the pack here.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

I must've passed 1/2 my group. There were people everywhere. I had the best rack spot and I was in and out in a jiffy! It was a bit of a run into transition so that is why it's so long timewise.
What would you do differently?:

I dropped my sunglasses so I think I would like to have not done that. Otherwise it was good I think
Bike
  • 49m 3s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.35 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed hard. At 8 1/2 miles in I passed a guy with a "5" on his calf so I knew I was still passing people in my AG. We chit-chat for a second as I pass and when I do he yells out "Hey buddy! You are in first!" I look back and say, "What?" He says "I was first out of the water in our AG and you are the only one to pass me." I said thanks and I pushed like hell from there on. I thought I was waaaaay off the back. "SEE BELOW FOR MY TOTAL DEVASTATION"
What would you do differently?:

Stay positive and keep pushing because you never know what you can accomplish!
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

I was a bit slow slipping my shoes on and I didn't get my Garmin because I knew I didn't have a second to spare here. I had to GO GO GO!!

What would you do differently?:

I maybe could have put some grease in my shoes so they went on faster but this was respectable for sure.
Run
  • 21m 24s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew I was in the lead so I pushed the whole time. There were a few moments where I had to kick myself in the butt to keep pushing and I did it. This was my best run to date at this distance. I was a good 25 sec/mile better than my previous best and this course is much tougher so I am Pumped!!
What would you do differently?:

Just keep pushing. I pushed good on the downhills but I left a bit in reserve on the uphills thinking I may have to sprint to the finish line.
Post race
Warm down:

I fell down in the grass and took a minute to catch my breath. I was elated with the effort I put forth (other than the swim lol) and I was exhausted! I looked at the results after I changed into something warmer and sure-enough. I was the first in my wave and the 3rd in my age group to finish. The other 2 were in the elite wave so I knew I had first in my wave!! That should have meant a first place award....
Here it comes.....
The awards were announced and I got 2nd :( I was totally bummed. Now today they have me listed in 3rd and they don't even list the elites in a seperate wave. I don't have a problem finishing 3rd because I had a good performance but I was upset (still bitter haha) because they shouldn't offer the other wave if they won't score them seperately. I just would have liked to know that in advance. I would like to line up with everyone I am racing I guess. I know it sounds whiney but it's how I feel. I know I got 21st out of 412 and I am still very proud of that for sure! Now I just know I have to get faster before next year so I can win!!

Event comments:

Great venue. Read my warm-down for some bitterness towards the RD. Otherwise it's great, well organized and just a great race.

I still would like cold Coke at the finish meal. Is that too much to ask?? I have all the water I can drink. I don't need another bottle of it. Thanks.
