Overall Rank = 235/310
Age Group = F60+
Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Got down pretty early and got a great parking spot in the lot that doubled as the transition area. I knew the weather was going to be great - sunny, not too warm, no wind, and the lake was glass. Said hi to a bunch of people, picked up my packet.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 20m 29s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went as usual - same as last year. I'm a lousy swimmer. Had to stop and defog goggles once. Sighting went well.
What would you do differently?:

We're planning on moving down by the Cities next year - I'm going to look for some "good" swimming instruction. I swam 3/week at the Y all winter and didn't get any better.
Transition 1
  • 03m 1s
Bike
  • 55m 7s
  • 17.3 miles
  • 18.83 mile/hr
Comments:

MY NEW BIKE ROCKS
Last year my speed was 17.3, this year 18.8. Bike upgrade really made a difference. And the one kinda hard hill was a ton easier. I knew I'd be faster with this bike but this was my 1st race with it.
However, I should mention that resurfacing of one long stretch helped with speed also.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Transition 2
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Even worse than usual T2. Someone racked bike over my stuff and I had to dig it out. Plus had gotten Gatorade on my glasses so had to clean
Run
  • 37m 25s
  • 3.9 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt lack of energy right away - walked several times. Time was slightly better than last year but not up to my faster speeds this year.
What would you do differently?:

I'm pretty happy with my running this year.
Post race
Warm down:

My husband showed up just after I finished. I stayed for awards - got 2nd in age group. Younger women moving up - haha. And since this race is 60+, I'm stuck in this age group forever. Also stayed for MN Tri series awards - got 1st age group.
Hot dogs and cookies.
Stopped and had smothered prime rib sandwich and apple crostada with ice cream on the way home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of swimming skills and old age.
However, I am really excited to see what I can do in future races with my new bike.

Event comments:

This is my favorite race. I love Whipple beach - even the weeds. And the weather has been pretty nice all 3 years I've raced here.
