Swim
Comments: Had to swim over a lot of people in the first 150 yds. Once we were clear of the first bouy things settled down. Great water support, several police/rescue boats, jet skis, paddleboards and kayaks. What would you do differently?: Get to the front before the start. Was too far back at the beginning. Transition 1
Comments: Great set up for transition, nice soft lawn, kiddie pools at the entrance for rinsing off your feet, and bike racks split into three rows with two aisles. The mounting line/area was bad. Out of transitions volunteers were yelling to mount at the pavement but at the pavement they were yelling to get off and mount at the cones. I just ran past all the chaos and mounted about 100 feet past the cones. Because of the rough roads, I did not get my feet into my cleats for nearly 2 miles of the ride. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Very good ride, was aggressive through the turns but not out of control. Had to pass a ton of people because they started the fastest wave last. Over 40 women, then over 40 men, then under 40 women followed by the under 40 men. My guess is they wanted everyone off the course as quickly as possible but it made for a really packed bike leg. What would you do differently?: Switch my Garmin to the normal data screen and ride by pace. Rode strictly by feel this race. Should have been faster over the last mile. Transition 2
Comments: Dismount line was as messed up as the mounting line situation. Dismounted early and avoided a group that was stopped when someone fell. 2nd fastest T2 in my group so very happy with that. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Again, I have a different distance on my Garmin. 3.1 instead of the listed 3.5. Still one of the better runs I've had. I really liked the 2 loop set up. The wind was right into your face on the north end, but overall not too bad. What would you do differently?: Not much, felt I went as hard as I could. Post race
Warm down: Water, towel, shade and talked to a couple of other racers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much, my goal was 1:05 but with the long swim and rough roads I knew it would be difficult to hit that time. Event comments: Great location for a tri. As a first year race there are some kinks to work out but that is to be expected. Could have used better post race food but oh well. Very family friendly race. Kids race on Saturday morning, then bounce houses and an art project tent during the post race festivities. Last updated: 2011-07-16 12:00 AM

Up early even though we stayed on Sanibel. Didn't want to be rushed if we got stuck in traffic. Normal race day breakfast, bread, peanut butter and milk. Got to race site by 5:45 and was set up by 6:15. Went to beach to relax before race. At 6:40 went back to Transition to check everything one last time. Good thing I did, someone had moved my bike, broke the rubber band holding my right cleat and knocked my helmet off my aero bars. Got things reset and spoke with RD before heading to the start.
Not much for warming up. Walked down to start, commented to my wife how I thought it was a long quarter mile between bouys. Got in the water a few minutes before my wave started, checked the goggles and was ready to go.
