Swim
Comments: Horrible. First ever open water swim. Cold took breath away. After getting around a group of people in front of me, struggled badly. Backstroke almost half the swim. What would you do differently?: Practice, Practice, Practice. Need to relax and not panic. Transition 1
Comments: Couldn't walk straight after swim. I was completely exhausted. What would you do differently?: All comes down to practicing open water swim. Bike
Comments: Took about 12-15 minutes to calm down from swim. After that it was a comfortable ride. Haven't ridden at this pace at this distance before. What would you do differently?: Didn't ride bike much before event. Need to ride more. Transition 2
Comments: Jogged bike to transition area. Racked bike, helmet off and cap on, finished gatorade and running shorts on. What would you do differently?: Forget running shorts. Run
Comments: Ran pretty good. After the swim and bike, didn't know I would be able to keep a decent pace through the run. I was hoping to average 10min/mile but happy to be a little quicker. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: A little stretching, drank a lot of water, ate muffin and bagel, spent time w/wife and kids. What limited your ability to perform faster: Unable to settle down during swim. If swim was better, overall times would be quicker. Need to work on a lot of things. Even w/the struggles in the swim, was ok w/bike and happy w/run. Event comments: I still say it was a good race because it was my first actual triathlon. Last one the swim was the night before in pool and bike/run was the next morning. I am happy that I was able to complete the event quicker than my goal even w/my swim issues. Will be back next year and try to better my performance. Last updated: 2011-07-16 12:00 AM

1:45 drive to event. Ate bagel w/peanut butter and cup of coffee during drive.
Got to event 1 hr before start. P/u packet, got marked and set up transition area. No time to warmup. Note: get to event early enough to relax and warm up w/plenty of time to spare.
