Run
Comments: I'm glad to be done. I wasn't sure I'd be able to hold any kind of pace with my HR in the stratosphere, but somehow I did. Difference between official time and my time was 36 seconds. Tried to thank or acknowledge all the volunteers, police officers, and spectators who came out to support us. They handed me a finisher medal just after the chute. Had a friend tell me I "looked good" (liar, I know I looked like crap). Heard a couple of people call my name, but I wasn't sure who, and there wasn't enough extra blood to go to my brain. What would you do differently?: Ummmm...could try to run at a lower HR... Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a few minutes. Ate a muffin, yogurt, bottle of water, 2 pieces of orange, a small beer, a bottle of green tea, and another bottle of water. Came home and took a shower. My wife ran faster than her goal for the 4-mile race. My youngest two sons also ran the 4-mile. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat. Event comments: They bring in some top-flight runners for this race. It was amazing to see how fast the top finishers were. Last updated: 2006-04-19 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:15, at some toast with peanut butter and jelly, some applesauce, and two cups of coffee. Got the rest of the family up about 5:45 and drove downtown about 6. Milled around and found the scouting group for the 6:30 meeting time.
I was hoping for 81-85 minutes (about 9 min/mile give or take) and knew when I opened the door to get the paper that 81 wasn't going to happen and 85 was in jeopardy.
Stood around, bounced a little, but otherwise didn't do much (it was pretty warm, and with over 3000 runners in the two races, I knew the first mile wouldn't be too quick and could serve as my warmup. Announcer said it was 75F at the start, and it got warmer before I was done.
