Comments:

First open water/group swim. Crap! Very different than the lanes at the Y. Spent the first 200 yards thinking I wasn't going to make it ... but after the first turn I was done before I knew it.

Another open water shocker: Hydrilla - weed that grows from the buttom of the lake to within a foot of the surface. Swimming along, and suddenly there's a green wall in front of me. It grabs hands & feet if you go too deep....lot's of incentive to keep legs from sinking.
What would you do differently?:

Get some experience with waves/other swimmers.

Took a loooong time in T1 - just happy to be alive after the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. My T1 time sucked but I'd been dreading the swim for 5 months. I took my time and enjoyed the accomplishment.

Still getting used to the bike and threw the chain going down a hill that should have provided a lot of speed. Road very conservative to make sure plenty was left for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Keep the friggin chain on the chainwheel. In the excietment of the 1st tri I forgot to drink anything for the entire bike ride.

Not drinking on the bike killed me on the run. Heart rate blew up and I walked 1/2 the course.

Hydrate.

Didn't drink while on the bike.

Event comments:

My 1st tri. Very organized, lots of support, seened like someone was offering water or gatorade every time I turned around. Can't wait to do this one again & improve on last year's time.
