Swim
Comments: First Long race swim without a wetsuit. kicked in throat 2x, once in the face. swam on top of twice -- all early at start. Couldn't seem to get the breathing back into my "zone" after that. Kayaks kept blocking the view of the buoys, so it was annoying to try to sight the swim. Boats were leaving gas smell and taste in the water. Miserable swim. What would you do differently?: I thought I had kept some space in front of me at the start, but one from each side crossed in front of me. Transition 1
Comments: It is a long run up from the swim to T1. My bike was at the very back of T1. After such a bad swim, I wasn't too worried about the time. Bike
Comments: I don't think I drank enough because I was fighting with the winds so much. I need to focus on the drinking more. Rode with the 88s, and was hoping to maintain a 20mph avg but a lot of cross winds. What would you do differently?: hydration would be improved. Transition 2
Comments: made sure to drink a bit before I left T2. again - a long trip through transition to the back rack. Run
Comments: it was hot! and hilly, so I walked a number of times. I probably focused more on hydration and less on getting the run done. dumped ice down my back multiple times. 2 water, 1 powerade each stop. Post race
Warm down: 2.5 bottles of water. stretched legs in front of misting fans. walked back down finish bridge to wait for others. What limited your ability to perform faster: heat and wind... get used to it! Event comments: This time around with the bad swim start it just wasn't a positive experience. Won't be difficult to break this distance PR if I decide to do another Olympic. Last updated: 2011-07-18 12:00 AM

A bit of walking and stretching.
