![]() Swim
Comments: So I'm just going to say it...I can't swim. There's no excuse or reason I can come up with to explain why I was in the water 6-7 minutes longer than I should have been. I got lost sighting onto the wrong section of buoys on the last leg of the swim and ended up out in the middle of the rectangle and almost into on-coming swimmers more than once! Just pathetic. The only plus side to the swim was this: my only intention of signing up for this race was to get more OWS practice, and apparently I decided to get 6+minutes additional practice, and surprisingly felt good fitness-wise despite horrendous navigation. What would you do differently?: Navigate! ![]() Transition 1
Comments: My timing chip fell off just after I got into transition. Spent a few seconds convincing a volunteer to give me back the chip before I could get to my area. Still not a bad transition, but could have been 5-10 seconds faster. What would you do differently?: Make sure timing chip is better secured? ![]() Bike
Comments: Very happy with my bike effort. My overall speed wasn't great compared to some, but my overall stamina and consistency were much more important, IMO. Being in the last start wave, and falling apart in the water, gave me plenty of people to chase down and keep my motivation up. My bike computer has my average speed just north of 20mph, which is a little different than official time. What would you do differently?: Found out after the race that my tires were fairly out of trim. Probably should have gotten the wheels checked before the race. Oops. Overall, though, I was very happy with how the bike leg went. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Tied for fastest T2. What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Run
Comments: Even though this was a small race, it still felt awesome to have the fastest 5k time on the course for the day (by almost 1min)! With about .2 to go, I passed a guy from my start wave and knew as soon as he realized I was from his wave he would charge hard. Around the final corner and into the finish chute I heard him right behind me trying to push past. Ended up crossing the line just ahead of him. Always a fun way to end a race. What would you do differently?: Push more in the middle. I've got to get out of my comfort pace and push through the middle mile with more enthusiasm. Probably cost me a chance at a sub 21min run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretched, had some water and fruit. Jogged around for a couple minutes to keep my legs loose. Packed up my gear and waited around, cheering on other finishers. What limited your ability to perform faster: The swim is what it is, and I'm still beating myself for such a poor performance. With about 3 miles left on the bike I realized I had to pee (too much pond water, probably!) but decided to hold out until the end of the race. Nothing quite like trying to climb hills and sprint a 5k with mother nature 'on hold'. Event comments: This was the inaugural year for this event, and what a great time. I was really surprised at how well organized everything was, and how cleanly the race went off. Last updated: 2011-07-18 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 ready to go. Ate a peanut butter and jelly english muffin and had some water. Packed my race bag and off to the course I went.
Took bike for a quick 10 minute ride to make sure the gearing was correct and everything was functional. Jogged for a couple minutes and stretched.
