Swim
Comments: The start of the swim was terrible. I think I managed to line up behind a bunch of slow swimmers, because the first 150 to 200 meters was spent running into and around all kinds of folks. As I began to get out of the pack, we were bombarded by the wake of a JetSki or two which was pretty annoying. After the first turn, I finally started to find my rhythm but I felt like I wasted alot of energy getting away from the slower swimmers. As it turns out though, I was very happy with my swim time. For me, this really the highlite of my race. What would you do differently?: Maybe started further up front. Transition 1
Comments: Had a helluva time getting my wetsuit off. Tried to get my socks on but I couldn't get my feet dry to put my socks on, so I rode with no socks. What would you do differently?: Immediately skip the socks during the bike. Bike
Comments: This is where my lack of training showed the most. My legs felt weak from the start. With that said though, I felt like I put up a pretty good fight. I battled back and forth w/ 4 other guys from mile 5 or 6 on. Left IT band started hurting about 3/4 into the race which didn't entirely surprise me. I tried rounding out my stroke and found that helped my pace as well as lessened the pain. By the time we got to the first aid station, I realized I had drank all my Accelerade. I grabbed a Gatorade bottle and dumped into my AeroBottle. That's the first time I had ever needed to refill while on the go. At that moment, that bottle was worth it's weight in gold. I might have drank just a tad too much, but I think that's better than not drinking enough. What would you do differently?: Train, train, train... Transition 2
Comments: Really not sure what took me so damn long here. What would you do differently?: Wake up - I hardly remember going through T2 at all. I must have been on autopilot. Run
Comments: I had a little trouble getting my legs to loosen up, but when they did I was breathing heavy. As I approached the turnaround, I saw Adam, then Ryan and then Matt. I picked up the pace from there on in a vain attempt to catch Matt, but he was too far ahead. I ended up running with one of the guys I battled with on the bike. We stayed together for about 1/2 a mile until he popped. With about 1/2 of a mile to go, my quads started spasming a bit (this has happened in training too), but I just tried to lengthen my stride and run loose. I really didn't want anyone catching me at this point. Good strong finish and the quads went right back to normal as soon as I crossed the finish line. What would you do differently?: Right now, I've got to figure out why my quads have been cramping. It may just be an issue of doing more bricks which I'll do, but beyond that I don't know what the problem might be. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training - I've certainly got more potential in me, but I have to train more and I have to train smarter. Event comments: If you're a runner in Colorado, you HAVE to do the BolderBoulder. If you're a triathlete in Colorado, you HAVE to do the 5430 Sprint. The great thing about it is that it's a big enough race to attract some very fast competitors and it's short enough that it's very do-able for newbies. Last updated: 2006-04-19 12:00 AM

Up at 4 am and ate a bowl of Raisin Bran. Rachelle and I kind of fell into the car (did I mention we got up at 4 am?), and hit the road to Boulder. On the way I had a banana and a PowerBar Granola bar and then another one about an hour before the race.
Listened to my MP3 player for a while I got my transition area set up just the way I wanted it, hit the restrooms and tried to stay relaxed. Ran into some of the most of the other BTers before the race. Ryan, Adam, Matt, Jenn, Stacie, Julia and Jenn. It was nice seeing familiar faces but for me, it added to the race atmosphere too. The guys in this group are the guys I want to beat the most :) Based on my training these past few weeks though, I knew I probably wouldn't see them until after the finish line.
Short swim to warm up and then focused on breathing to try and control my HR. It was beating so hard, I thought it would burst through my wetsuit.
