Swim
Comments: The course looked long and seemed long swimming it. The chop wasn't too bad but on the long stretch back it seemed like we were going into a current. There were about 100 people in my wave and the wave behind me had over 100. Since I am an average swimmer at best I was most likely in the thick of it in my wave and I think pretty many people from the wave behind me eventually passed me. There was a lot of contact during most of this swim for me and I was doing battle just to stay afloat at times. What would you do differently?: Maybe swim on the outside a little instead of taking the most direct route like everyone else seemed to be doing. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: The course is mostly flat. When you get into town, tho, there are a lot of turns that can slow you down. They had several water bottle exchanges which I used and that worked out well. Transition 2
Comments: This would have been better but chose to put sunscreen on. Next time I'll use the spray type instead of lotion. Run
Comments: Coming out of T2 I felt good and thought maybe I could put together a good run. I ran for about the first 2-3 miles and then it was like I was running out of gas. I also had some quad cramps that actually were worse when I walked, but I was so tired I couldn't get myself to run much. This turned into a pretty pathetic run very quickly. At about mile 4 I think I began wishing it was over. I'm actually surprised with all the walking I did that my time wasn't worse. oh, and there are 2 hills that are significant. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm sure I over cooked the bike, but even with a slower bike I'm not sure I would have been much under 2 hrs. in the run. This was my longest tri to date and in tough conditions, so overall not too bad. Event comments: well organized race. Last updated: 2011-07-18 12:00 AM
