Swim
Comments: Got a decent start but soon it seemed like everyone was gone. The sun was in my eyes for one of the legs and so I had a really hard time sighting and staying on course. What would you do differently?: I thought for this race I would try really pushing my pace and seeing what happens and the result was that I was still SLOW. I need to get in for some coaching and join a masters group soon. Transition 1
Comments: Fairly smooth transition. Bike
Comments: Bike course was fun but challenging. Had a 11-22 rear cassette and I could have really used better gearing but that is what I had so I made it work. I felt like I was either in my easiest gear or my hardest. Climbing or descending. What would you do differently?: get a better rear cassette better for climbing. push it a little harder on the climbs. Maybe get out of my saddle a little bit more. Transition 2
Comments: fairly smooth Run
Comments: Had a pretty good run overall. My legs started to feel good despite the hills after about 2 miles. I was pretty thirsty though and drank a cup at every water station as well as dumped it one on my head. What would you do differently?: push the pace a little harder the last two miles. Get mentally tougher. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Met my Girlfriend who had run the sprint distance and ate some lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weight. I need to lose about 20 more pounds to get my run and bike swim times down. And as usual my swim was HORRIBLE. I need coaching soon. Event comments: Loved the course. it was challenging but fun. Drove to the race site drank an ensure and at a banana on the drive over. drank some water. set up transition area but felt a little rushed in getting things set up and in the the rush I forgot to air up my tires. Luckily I had just rode 3 days earlier so they had enough air in them to survive the ride but it made me nervous for sure.
walked down to the water and got in to feel the water the few minutes before the race started.
