Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 12.30 and ate a thing of yogurt.
Got up at 4.30, ate a bowl of granola and a banana.
Got there pretty early. Checked transition bags for moisture it had rained the night before. Pumped up tires. Filled water bottle. Got body marked, then dropped off special needs bags.
Had a gu before the swim.
Event warmup:

no warmup, tried to just relax
Swim
  • 1h 11m 45s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

A little overwhelmed at first, but settled into a nice pace. Swam controlled and steady! Hugged the line and fought for most of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Really nothing. Maybe swim cleaner? That will only happen as I get better.
Transition 1
  • 06m 50s
Comments:

Had a good T1. Long run. Was a little overwhelming entering the tent. Sooo many people, no where to go. Found a spot quick and got out of there pretty quick.
What would you do differently?:

Make decisions even faster. Less hesitation. Sunscreen!
Bike
  • 6h 28m 13s
  • 112 miles
  • 17.31 mile/hr
Comments:

Raced it perfectly until my bike broke... Was pacing just on what felt comfortable because of no HR. Really felt like I was doing well, not going to hard. Took it nice and easy up hills, never got out of the saddle to climb. Just stayed even.
What would you do differently?:

I would not change a thing, except make sure my bike does not break...
Transition 2
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

Pretty good transition. I was in and out quick. Little thrown off from the whole broken bike thing, but shook it off and got out fast.
What would you do differently?:

I liked my time here, I would not do anything differently. Maybe more sunscreen...
Run
  • 4h 21m 56s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 09m  min/mile
Comments:

I really worked hard at keeping a slow pace in the beginning. I wanted to do nothing more than run like an 8 for the first few miles. This was critical to finishing. The 9 in the beginning becomes a 10 very quickly about halfway through. By the end I was at a 12...
What would you do differently?:

I would not get discouraged by slowing down, I would listen to my body and maybe try something a bit different for nutrition. I would also train harder going in! Want that run below a 4 next time!
Post race
Warm down:

Felt awful after the race. Cried, no appetite, went to the bathroom something awful. Really was a rough experience...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ummm, the fact that it was an IRONMAN!

Event comments:

Best race ever!
