Swim
Comments: I've gotten some open water swims and my intention was to stay in the back. As I made friends with a few of the people in my wave, suddenly I found myself front and center. It was a catastrophy! I never found my rhythm and had to back stroke the second half because I was so tired and the water was too warm to keep my face down. What would you do differently?: Wait in the back, let the others go so that I can find my pace. Transition 1
Comments: I don't remember much of T1. I think it went smoothly as I just took my time (obviously) and got all my stuff on and jogged my bike out. As I was trying to get my stuff someone next to me knocked a bunch of bikes over and I was able to catch mine as it was going down. What would you do differently?: Run more rather than gimp my way along. Bike
Comments: I did stop to help someone with a flat tire. My back was tight for the first 8 miles but I really tried to stick to plan since the swim sucked so hard. I kept my cadence up and by the end my legs felt pretty good and I was passing a lot of people up in the last six miles. What would you do differently?: Push a bit harder. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: No idea at this point. Run
Comments: I ran 4 minutes and walked 1. This resulted in a PR for me (I know, it's still slow but I have crappy feet!) I was messing around with the photographers as well because I'm a smart ass. What would you do differently?: I could have pushed harder. Next time I will work on lengthening my stride. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of a base. I have a lot more training to do. Event comments: Best and first traditional (outside of bike length) sprint. I've realized that what I thought was my strongest discipline (swimming) is the one I will need the most work with. It is not the open water that is the problem, it is the mass of bodies around me.
